Hi everyone,

I’ve recently set up a Sonos system in my living room, which is quite large, and I’m trying to get the best sound quality possible. I have a Sonos One as the primary speaker, but I’m wondering if adding additional speakers or making some adjustments could improve the overall experience.

Here’s my setup so far:

  • Sonos One (main speaker)
  • No subwoofer yet
  • I use the system mostly for music, streaming services like Spotify, and occasional movies.

I’ve tried adjusting the sound settings in the app, but I feel like I’m still not getting the full potential, especially when I crank up the volume. The sound can sometimes feel a little muddled, and the bass doesn’t seem to be as impactful as I’d expect, especially for a system that's supposed to fill a larger space.

I’m wondering if I should invest in a Sonos Sub to help with the bass, or if there are specific settings within the Sonos app or any other tweaks I might be overlooking. Also, would adding another Sonos One as a surround speaker in this setup help, or should I consider something like the Sonos Beam for a more cinematic sound?

I’ve read some things about using Trueplay to adjust the sound based on the room, but I’m unsure if that’s really necessary or if it will make a big difference for a room this size.

I’d really appreciate hearing about any personal experiences or advice on how I can improve the sound in my specific setup. Are there any other Sonos products or add-ons that could help enhance my listening experience in a large space like this?

Thanks in advance!

For a large space, you might be better off using a bigger speaker such as Five or Era 300, and running a stereo pair rather than a single speaker. Of those I’d lean to the Eras with their multi-directional speaker arrangement. A Sub will help too.
You didn’t mention your budget 😜

Trueplay tuning, once done, can be turned on and off, so try it and switch off if it doesn’t help.

You mention “adding another Sonos One as a surround speaker”. A soundbar is needed in order to run surrounds, and they need to be two same-model speakers, compatible with the soundbar.

I use a One in my 10x10 foot office space and it is nice for background music.

For a large room I’d recommend a Pair of Fives is stereo listening is your goal. If you want Atmos or the ability to listen to it later then Era-300s would be a better choice.

Even the Era 100 would be an upgrade to your One, not a big bump but you should hear the difference.

If you aren’t looking at Stereo or Atmos listening then you can add multiple Sonos speakers to get you the sound level and coverage you prefer.

You say large but don’t give a size or if it is a closed or open room or the ceiling height/type so recommending a Sub is the safe option, a Mini might work but it isn’t intended for “large.”
