I have an open floor plan for living room/kitchen. 20ft x 40ft. I have corner TV mounted over fireplace with arc. Center couch in middle of room and a corner chair.  Looking to balance sound into kitchen. Was thinking of adding gen 4 sub, but confused on placement of era 100s or era 300s given constraints of room.  Was thinking 2 era 300s on one back corner of couch by wall cabinet and other behind side chair on stands and an era 100 or 300 in kitchen. Appreciate any thoughts and hope my pics upload for assistance in visual. Thank you.

Hi @Jbgjbg, welcome to the Sonos Community!

Thanks for the pictures, I’d be happy to help give the information you need to help you decided on what speakers to get.

I’ll start with the living room/home theater setup. You mention the 300s as surrounds, and while either would be a good addition, the 300s are the better choice. These are the general surround speaker guidelines:

General Guidelines:

  • Ensure both speakers are in the same orientation: vertical or horizontal.
  • Place your surround speakers behind and to the left and right of your usual listening position.

Era 100 & 300 Guidelines:

  • Both speakers' height should be around ear level and behind your seated position.
  • Leave at least 8" (20.32cm) clearance around the sides of each speaker.

For the Era 100s, you’ll want to position them facing your listening position, while for the Era 300s, you’ll want them facing your TV. Generally, they’ll be angled similarly if you do either of these options, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

Regarding adding a Sonos Sub 4; I’d suggest holding off at first. I’ll always recommend adjusting the EQ settings in the Sonos app as the first step. Adjusting the bass there might give you what you want without the cost of a Sub, so try that first and if you still feel the bass is lacking, then go for the Sub.

For the kitchen, you may be able to get away without having a speaker if you don’t want to watch TV in the living room and have music in the kitchen at the same time. You’ll be able to use your home theater setup with the Arc and the surrounds you get to play music, which should give coverage to the kitchen. This is another ‘try it first, then add if needed’ situation. If you feel like you’re still lacking when using your system for music, I’d agree that an Era 100 is the choice there.

If you have any further questions then please let me know but I hope this helps!

Thank you for your suggestion Jamie a!!  That is what I will do.
