Hi! I was wondering if anyone can help out build the best setup for the space as atacched, it is cca. 50m2 in total… TV is hidden in the movable cabinet near the fireplace. It is a newbuild so we can play with best positions etc.

I was thinking 1 sonos Five near dining table, 1 woofer next to sofa and probably 1 more Five or two times sonos One in respective corners…

90% use scenario is background music, 10% TV watching

Oh and the ceiling is suspended so there is potentially an option of adding speakers in the ceiling as well, but dunno how much more complicated that is ...

Any help much appreciated.

Hello @k91, welcome to the Sonos Community!

A couple things I’d like to point out:

  • We no longer sell Sonos One’s on our website, it’s been replaced by the newer Sonos Era 100.
  • With the Sonos products you’ve mentioned, you will not be able to listen to TV audio, have a look on the following page The Ultimate Guide to a Sonos Home Theater for more information.

With my reply, your thread moved to the top of the latest activity list, maybe other users in our Community would provide you with some suggestions.

I would personally recommend you to reach out to our Sales Team, sharing this thread so that they can have a picture of the room layout.

I hope this helps.

Generally speaking with audio, you want to have a sound stage, a single wall or directlon pointed to the most common seating, or listening, area.  With your layout, I don’t see an obvious location for a soundstage, since you seem to have 3 main areas (kitchen, dining table, seating area) in this space.  For situations like this, and because you’re primarily interested in background music, I would go with a Sonos amp powering 4, or maybe 6 ceiling speakers.   Using a Five in the dining room is ok for the dining room, but won’t balance well in the kitchen or seating area.   It also will be located behind some or all the listeners, which isn’t ideal.  Like wise for speakers placed in the living room.

As far as the TV audio, a soundbar below the TV, on the same mount as the TV, would be best.  That way audio will always becoming from the TV , whatever direction the TV is currently facing.  An Arc Ultra maybe overkill for your needs, as you aren’t going to get the benefit of the dolby atmos effects in this space and you only are interested in TV audio 10% of the time.  A Beam might make more sense, and it’s simulated atmos, which is going to be less dependent on audio bouncing off walls/celings to get to the listener.

Thank you. For the TV it’s clear, beam + sub (next to sofa) So what do you suggest for dining area?

2x ERA 100 instead of Five?

I like lots of speakers. I recommend speakers for the kitchen area since this is usually a noisy area and an area where time is spent.

Ceiling speakers could evenly cover this space, but this will not provide a focused listening area. You may not need a focused listening area. This is personal.

With respect to TV audio, a soundbar will integrate best with the TV, however, attempting to Group additional areas with the TV audio introduces lip sync issues that are not acceptable to many viewers.

I’d consider trying speakers in the Kitchen area, a single 100 might be adequate for casual music and adding local volume to the TV sound. The delay/echo may or may not be a problem given the distance between them and how your ears feel about it. The delay is not an issue when streaming non-TV sources.
