Hello I have a sonos bar which has worked fine until optical sound broker. I have purchased a analogue to digital converter plugged it into my jack output on my tv bust sound does not work

is there a better option or will this just not work

What kind of Sonos bar?

What do you mean by ‘broker’?

What jack outputs on the TV is the digital converter connected to, and what specific device is it? It’s not uncommon to mistake a digital to analog converter from an analog to digital converter, for instance. Similar devices, very different action.

If you’re hoping to get full Dolby Digital 5.1 signal, you’re better off pulling the signal off before it reaches the TV, if the TV’s optical port is ‘broken’ and there is no ARC port to connect to. There are dozens of HDMI switches with optical audio outputs that you can find out there.

I purchased above.

I am unable to use my optical sound jack in my tv as it is broken so need an alternative.

can I use above if I connect to another jack in the tv like maybe the headphone jack

I wouldn’t use the headphone jack, it is likely to be controlled by the TV’s volume, which could cause substantial issues. Does your TV have analog outputs for a Video recorder? Use those red and white RCA jacks that are labeled ‘out’ or something like that.

Would be helpful to see the input side of that converter, along with either the picture of the ports on your TV, or at the least a link to an online manual so we could see what is supposed to be there and give you better advice.

Hello really appreciate your

Thanks for the pictures, it helps.

Your analog to digital converter needs power connected to that DC/5V input. However, based on the picture of back of the TV there are only inputs, not outputs, which will make this much more challenging. What is the brand and model number of this TV set?

You could potentially try that headphone output to the R/L input on that converter, but I’d want to be sure that the TV’s volume was set to at least 50% before testing, to ensure the converter is getting enough of a signal level to convert.

I would still suggest that you’d be better off not using this converter, and instead using an HDMI switch with an optical output, such as this one, which would give you Dolby Digital from your sound bar, rather than just stereo, which is all you’d ever get from that converter. The one I linked is merely an example, they come in many different configuration in numbers of inputs and outputs. The key aspect for you would be x number of inputs, and one output via HDMI for the TV and one SPDIF/optical output for the Sonos.
