1 Era 300 or 2 Era 100 - for Pilates & Yoga Studio 50m2

Hi there!

I am looking for easy to set up  speakers with easy streaming for a Yoga/Pilates Studio - with good and well balanced sound across the room. Ideally, the sound quality should be the same in the whole room and not sound “cheap”. The soundsytem doesnt have to be too loud, except maybe in the “power pilates” class i turn it up a little more, but still not like a “party” atmosphere, the instructors should still be heard over the music :)

The room is ~45-50m2  (5,50 x 9m).  Height is around  2,70-2,80m

One of the longer side walls is glass.

Should I go for 1 Era 300 or 2 Era 100s?
(Or 2 Era 300s? But little out of budget tbh)

And which placement would be ideal for the Era 300 vs 2 Era 100s?

Thanks in advance, i dont know much about speaker system so anything helps at this point.

The 300s are really aimed at Atmos which won't work well in your space. The 100s are a good fit.

Choosing the Era-100 or the Era-100SL or a combination  depends on what features you need. For me the SL is perfect and a bit less expensive.

I would set them up as individual speakers (Sonos calls them Rooms) and then Group them to play together and use a single control for selection and master volume.

If you find just the two a bit weak it is easy to add more, if you watch for sales it can be less expensive.

Placement, I'd look at in corners (enhances the low frequencies) and mounted high (reduces Wi-Fi absorption by a room full of people) it is easy to put them on long extension cords and compare multiple locations for the best sound.

thank you for quick reply, much appreciated!

and would you recommend installing them in the corners on the shorter side (the “front”, where the mirrors will be, and where the instructor is standing), or on the longer side, facing the window (which is basically glass top to bottom and full length)?

or maybe even across from each other in opposite corners?

Front is always tempting but it may leave the back of the room a bit quiet, opposite corners would help that. Long side wouldn't be my first choice but if the windows are an issue it is worth considering.

Get the extension cords (saves waiting for the 100 to reboot on each move) and try them all.

Hi Stanley_4, what about 2 Era 300 vs 2 or 3 Era 100 SL? I got a similar space, 60m2 for yoga and personal training.
Thanks for you comments!
Carl

For that use the Era-100 SLs are a good fit, get a couple and add more if you feel the need. Pretty much plug and play.

There is a commercial option, I haven't seen, if you have an installer or the skills they might be an option.

Ideally every listener should be the same distance from a speaker. This will avoid the need to blast nearby listeners in order to get coverage to distant listeners. 3-4m spacing between speakers would be a good start to the design.

I’m too late to this discussion. However, the only issues you may encounter is Wi-Fi interference. The interference I’m referencing is generated by the very people you are training. The human body acts like a big sponge regarding Wi-Fi. The more people in a class the greater the possibility for interference.

Sonos has a solution called Era 100 Pro that is designed for commercial spaces. The speakers in Era 100 Pro are wired via Ethernet which negates Wi-Fi and the possible associated issues.  Learn more about Era 100 Pro here.

Ok, thanks for the tips! The closest pro installer is in France.. I am in Barcelona, Spain. Can any Era 100 be turned into a Era 100 Pro? IE can I do the Pro installation by myself? I just bought a pair of Era 100 refurbished to start with and if I feel the need I will get more but yeah the Pro-part seems like a good solution to wifi issues. I am pretty handy, maybe I can do it by myself.

All the best,

Carl

Ok, I see now that the Pro version is a different speaker and costs about 500€ here in Spain. I will see how the normal ones do and if I have issues I will reconsider.

Thanks!

Just my two cents.

You can wire a 100 to the network with this accessory.

The 100 Pro is not difficult to install, just to buy. The trick once you have them is getting the proper Power Over Ethernet, POE, setup and working. With good Ethernet cable, connectors and a quality crimp tool and then getting a POE Ethernet switch with enough power you should be good.

Regular 100s with local power and wifi connections should usually work but the Ethernet connector is a good fallback if the wifi is iffy and you don't need the installer.
