Volume control with turntable to Sonos speakers

Hi! I have the Sonos Beam gen 2 (connected to tv) and the Sonos Era 100. I am planning to purchase a turntable with built in pre-amp and connect it to the Era 100. And then ”group” the music through both speakers.

My question is:

Will I be able to adjust the music volume that comes from the turntable, out of both speakers, by using the buttons on either the Era 100 or the Beam? So that the volume changes simultaneously.

Because the turntable doesn’t have a way to controll the volume, and I don’t want to have to purchase a separate pre-amp with volume controll, just for that action.

Please help.

You would control the volume on each speaker or through the app as you would with any other source. To change the volume of both speakers in a group simultaneously, you would need to use the app. Is the Era100 a standalone speaker, not part of a surround pair? The line in is disabled on the Era100 if it is used for surrounds. You will need to buy the Sonos 3.5 to USB-C line in adapter. It is the only adapter that works. You could play the turntable through the Era100 and group the Beam with it, or you can select line in as a music source on the Beam, if you just want to list to the turntable on it.

Hi

In your case you would have volume control in the following manner within the Sonos app.

  • Master volume for the group simultaneously
  • Independent volume for Beam2
  • Independent volume for Era 100 w/turntable *

When you select the group you’ll see a single volume slider. When you actually tap the volume slider you’ll see the volume sliders as mentioned above.

 * If the Era 100 is part of a pair used as surrounds you’ll not be able to connect a turntable to either speaker. The line-in is disabled when the Era or any speaker with line-in capability is used as a surround.
