Using existing speakers

I am moving and I would like to use my old system with streaming.  I put it together in the 90s, mid-range stuff  —JVC receiver, CD, dual-cassette (it was the 90s), Sony turntable, Advent speakers…

We have cassettes, but I’m not too concerned with that. And we’re not likely to use the receiver, except as an amp. We would like to listen to SiriusXM, which we use in our cars and I use on my phone. We have several hundred CDs and LPs. I like the speakers and would like to use them in our main room.

I’m not familiar with going wireless, but people tell me Sonos is the way to go. Does that mean an amp and some kind of receiver on each speaker, to pick up the signal from the amp?

Some have folded peripheral equipment in with their home loan. In this instance you’d need a Port ($499) to connect to your JVC and a Sonos Amp ($699) wired to your speakers. The only caveat is that you’ll need to use the JVC Tape-Out for the Port. Tape-In can still be used by the tape deck and the CD transport would connect to CD input. The turntable would connect to the JVC phono input. All audio from components connected to the JVC would be sent to the Port and via line-in to the Amp would be heard through the wired speakers. SiriusXM would stream directly to the Sonos amp without need for the JVC.

To use your old system you’d want a Sonos Port toi connect to your current setup.

If you want to add rooms then a Sonos speaker or pair in each room will connect to the Port to share what you send to it.

You might consider ripping your CDs and storing them digitally, Sonos can then play them without the hassle of swapping them in and out of a CD player.

Unfortunately, that doesn’t address my goal of using my old speakers in a wireless system without wiring them to an amp. It sounds as though I’ll need an amp for each speaker and coordinate the sound source through the app. I’m in the process of buying the house so it’ll be a while before I could afford to do that. I’ll probably just use my old system without spreading the speakers and wires too far apart.
