turntable is not working with sonos

I have an Argon Audio TT turntable and it has worked fine for a while, but when I decided to switch over to a Sonos setup, it didn't respond well to that.

When I connect the turntable up to my Era 100. It gives me a lot of static and barely any sound from my LP.

The turntable does have a RIIA preamp and I've tried it on a non Sonos speaker and it works fine.

I have also tried on my Sonos move 2 and it behaves the same as the other one.

I don't know what to do here.

If not tried already, maybe try increasing the line-in source level, as mentioned in this document link:

Take it to a level where no distortion is noticeable at/near max-volume level audio-out and see if that perhaps improves things for you.

Hi Chrisaxy, I have the exact same issue. This forum (and several other audio forums) are littered with people who have the same problem and in all my troubleshooting, Sonos has neither acknowledged the issue or provided a solution. They recommended I call the company who makes my turntable and ask them why it doesn’t work with Sonos. My turntable (and I assume yours too) works just fine with a standard integrated amp and passive speakers. My recommendation would be to return the system if you still have the boxes.

Hi Chrisaxy, Sleevel,

I just received my Sonos Era 100 and have the exact same setup with the Argon Audio TT connected to the speaker. I am using a RCA to Audiojack cable plugged in the turntable and the Sonos line-in adapter, and at first it didn't work, having the same problem as you. Came across this thread and was worried about having to return the complete setup.

However, after some trial and error it actually works now: the problem is either in the cable (I'm using RCA to 3.5mm jack) or the Sonos line-in adapter (or combination of those). In some positions of the cable there's static and low volume, but in some it's not - so it's probably something in the way the cable connects to the Line-in adapter (might be very sensitive), or a break in the cable (however I don't think that's the case because it works everytime when I use it with another speaker). So maybe you could try to play a vinyl, and when doing that try to put the cable in some different positions, wiggling it a bit, or buy another cable, that might help.

This may give you some hope that it's not something that ALWAYS happens with this setup. Good luck!
