Turnable wireless audio to Sonos

Hi @Everyone - looking for advice to add a turntable to my setup: I do not own one yet, so pretty open minded; having said that I like the Pro-Ject turnables, and I understand that the T2 W has a pre-amp and WIFI connectivity which seems perfect to stream to Sonos speakers.

I cannot find the T2 W on the Sonos UK site, but found it here: https://www.richersounds.com/pro-ject-t2-w-black/

My current Sonos setup with 2x Era300, 2x Era100, Sub4, and soundbar ultra across my lounge, dinning and open plan kitchen. All speakers are wall mounted (except from the sub obviously), so not an “easy” job if I was to put a cable to connect a turnable to one of them.

Questions:

  1. Is there an option to connect a turntable wirelessly to Sonos to avoid having to add another Era100 to wire it in?
  2. Is the T2 W not available via Sonos, and is there not a “cheaper” option to buy a T2 and connect it to a Sonos compatible streamer instead?
  3. Beyond Pro-Ject, any other suggestions?

BR, Lio

You can add a Port and place the turntable anywhere in your home. Just configure Autoplay to your HT system and you are good to go.

The cheapest way would be a Connect S15 which does the same thing as the Port.

Here is what Sonos recommends:

  1. Victrola Stream models are made specifically for wireless connection to Sonos.

I’m not fond of the quality you often get from a Bluetooth link.

The wired connection to a Sonos Era adapter and one of your Sonos, the older Connect or a Port are all possibilities, as is the option of an additional Era-100 and adapter to place where the wire won’t be an issue.

The Victrola Stream is a decent turntable and reports are that it works well.

Check Pro-Ject Debut Evo 2 - it’s quite good turntable for the price. I have one with the Cambridge Alva Solo preamp + Sonos Port + Sonos Five. Overall, I’m very happy with the setup!

I own the Victrola Stream Onyx.  I stream it to two stereo paired Fives. Both the turntable and the Fives are in the same room, as it the WiFi router.  Works like a champ, though the Victrola app is a little bare (not that it needs to be packed with features).  The only other thing I may mention is the dust cover for the Stream models is a little whacked.  It’s not really a cover, more like a flat piece of plastic formed into a half-round and a tunnel piece that sits over the platter and tonearm.

Thank you all for your feedback and suggestion - good to have options.

I was wondering if any one has experience with the Pro-Ject T2 W as mentioned in my initial post.. if it is any good and able to stream directly to the Sonos via WIFI...

The FAQ in this link states it is able to stream to Sonos:

https://www.project-audio.com/en/product/t2w/#faq

The T2 W will most likely work also with other manufacturers' devices, but here is a list of manufacturers, where we have so far been able to test for compatibility with the T2 W: Pro-Ject Audio Systems, Musical Fidelity, Andover Audio, Arylic, AVM, Cambridge, Denon, Heos, HiFi Rose, iEAST, iFi, KEF, Marantz, Onkyo, Pioneer, Rotel, Samsung, Sonos, Sonus Faber, Triangle, Volumio, WiiM

To my knowledge, all Pro-Ject turntables communicate via a wired connection, or via Bluetooth, when possible. None of them send a signal via WiFi to Sonos.

Actually, the T2 W (I assume the ‘W’ is for wireless) has a wireless component.  More than likely their version of the UPnP/Roon based streaming Victrola introduced last year.

Interesting, Sonos should sell that W version. (Scroll way down and it isn't there)

Interesting. While not called out in text specifically (except in the FAQ), it does show in the image that it can connect to Sonos devices. I’d be interested in hearing from an owner (perhaps two, one for S1, one for S2) to suggest how well it works.

Unfortunately, I got rid of most (maybe all?) of my vinyl years and years ago, they were just too heavy to keep moving from location to location, and the vast majority had been replaced by CDs. There are a few I’ve never replaced, but not many. Of course, now days, all CDs have been ripped to an NAS….

Thanks, @jgatie !

Indeed, not on the Sonos website whereas I was expecting it to be on top of the list since it is wireless (WIFI enabled)
