Hi, we’re refurbishing a 1967 Zenith x930 stereo console. I’m thinking of replacing the record changer and speakers with an updated turntable and a pair of Sonos speakers. The speakers will go where the old speakers were behind the covers. Any suggestions for a turntable that will work with Sonos speakers? Any suggestions for the right set of Sonos speakers? I currently have a pair of 2012 Fives and am wondering if they have improved enough to buy new ones.
thanks

Well ideally you need speakers with a line-in from the Turntable/pre-amp so if you have been using the old Play:5 (gen-1) then i’d definitely use the new Five as they’re a big improvement. I’d personally also add a Sonos Sub or Sub-Mini to the room too.

Sonos do this package with a Turntable, so perhaps consider that as part of your purchase, along with another Five. (The Sub, or Sub-Mini, can be added later)…

I'd also consider a Sonos Amp and the in-wall Architecture Speakers.

Thanks! What do the sub and sub mini do?

They handle the Bass frequency audio - the crossover is around 80Hz (or slightly higher) and will go down to about 25Hz.

I use a Sub (gen3) with a stereo pair of Fives and the setup sounds great, albeit I personally prefer the speakers set to their vertical orientation, with the tweeters on the inside, for a sharper stereo image at the (‘sweet-spot’) main listening position. I also prefer my speakers set at (or near) head-height, when seated.
