Question

Sonos Project T2 turntable via line-in to Move 2 is dropping and delaying audio

The Project T2 turntable, sold by Sonos as if it is a Sonos turntable (it isn’t), doesn’t integrate well with my Sonos system. I am using a Move 2 to support the line-in from the turntable.

The problem is this: whenever I flip a record from A to B side, Sonos loses the audio connection. Sometimes the sound comes on later by itself after a delay of some tens of seconds (so we don't hear the beginning of the record). Sometimes I have to hit the "play" button on the app for the sound to come through (more audio missed). Sometimes some speakers play the music but another speaker starts to play some tens of seconds later. If I change which speakers are grouped to play, the sound disappears. The app keeps showing the "apply" button for the speaker grouping, but then nothing happens. Repeat.

In short, the integration with Sonos is absolutely horrible and Sonos should not be selling it as an integrated product. Yes I have delved the settings including audio delay (why delay at all??). It doesn't help. The turntable itself is a fine turntable (although it lacks an auto start and auto stop when the arm is moved to play or reaches the end of the record). It’s the integration with Sonos that’s horrible.

Is there anything that can be done to make the experience better?

No idea but lots of folks seem happy, maybe read this group a bit and see if there is any help there.

Your message is a bit blurred by things that really are not relevant to your problem, like the fact Sonos sells Pro-ject turntables. Besides that they are clearly marked as such on https://www.sonos.com/en-us/shop

You seem to miss the fact Sonos has always needed an audio delay to sync speakers. Difficult WiFi circumstances can be bettered using a longer delay.

To me the facts you mention seem to point to your WiFi as the source of your problem. Since you do not mention your WiFi set up it is difficult to say anything about this, but you could start by seeing if (temporarily) repositioning your Move helps.

Not really the fault of the turn table, there is no specific integration for it any more than there is for any other device using line in on the Move.

Check all cable connections are securely seated and the cable is undamaged. Also, are you using a Sonos cable? There have been issues reported with 3rd party cables.

Can you try another Sonos speaker to handle the line in just to rule out a fault on the Move itself?

Otherwise as@106rallye says, sounds like you may need to look into your network stability.

@106rallye I’ve found another user had the same complaint a couple of years ago and concluded that the Move 2 was the source of the problem. It doesn’t look like there was any fix.

… so unlikely to be my WiFi or anything unique to my setup.

@Stanley_4 thanks, I’ll have a look. I just wish it worked out of the box.

@User117655 I used the sonos-supplied line-in to USB adapter, brand new. It’s not a loose cable (no crackling etc) and the cable is secure. The sound is great when it works.

@Howard_26 So because someone else did not solve his problem, you conclude it is not your WiFi?

and here’s another user with a similar problem…

The “best answer” suggests that: “the MOVE could be in some stage of sleep. A diagnostic will show this. You’ll need to work with SONOS support because we don’t have access to the diagnostics.”

I’ve contacted support and after an initial response from them I’ve not heard follow-up yet.
