Hi, I have a question about SONOS Port capability before I buy it:
My current setup:

I have a SONOS 5 (Family Room) and a set of paired SONOS 1's (Office).  I play from an iTunes library on a Macbook. Everything works great.

I also have in the basement an old school stereo system, with amp, turntable, cd player, tape deck, graphic equalizer.  Think 1982.


Question -- Does the SONOS Port enable both:

1. Play vinyl from my turntable (or CDs, or tape) and hear it on my SONOS system speakers along with the the speakers attached to the stereo amp.

2. Play iTunes digital music over SONOS system and have it go through Port to my stereo amp & speakers.

Is it one, the other, or both?

Maybe both, but it all depends on what audio input/output ports you may have on your old school stereo system?

Also note for audio input purposes only from your old hardware into the Sonos ecosystem - your Sonos Five/Play:5 has a 3.5mm analog line-in port that you can likely use already for stereo input.

So, assuming I have the needed ports, the Port device itself is bi-directional?   So, able to  transmit from the SONOS system to the stereo, and from the stereo to the SONOS system?

Yes, the Sonos Port has RCA analog audio line-in & out. It also has digital (coax) S/PDIF audio-out too. See image attached…

 

So does your receiver for example have a tape loop? Then you’re in the clear.

Think of the Port as just another tape deck/drive when using analog, and as a CD player when using the digital.

What brand and model is your amplifier?

as the DRA-350 has two tape loops you can use one of them for the Port.

The tape monitor/copy switch will make it easy to use.
