Sonos 5 with Project turntable and pre amp

hi everybody,

I’m using a Project elemental turntable (no pre-amp) with my sonos system through my sonos 5.

It works fine but due to the lack of pre-amp on my turntable, I have to put the volume of my spreaker very high.

So I bought a Nano LP1 pre-amp (RIAA equalization).

Now, the sound is horrible. There are crackling noises that make the music inaudible.

When I remove the pre-amp, the sound is back to normal (but I have to turn the volume up to maximum again)

I went back to the store to get the Nano LT1 replaced but I have exactly the same problem with the new one. I tried to lower the source level with my sonos app but it didn’t solved the problem.

Does someone have an idea?

Thanks for any advice.

Nicolas

Edit : I tried with different cables...

Hi @Nicocottin, welcome to the Sonos Community!

It does sound like the Nano pre-amp is causing the issue here as, while the audio is lower without it, adding it in causes the distortion.

As you’ve already tried different cables, I would recommend you adjust the Line-In settings on Sonos, specifically the audio compression. You can do this by following the steps in our article on Adjusting Line-In Audio Compression. I would recommend trying both Uncompressed and Compressed.

I would recommend either a different pre-amp or that you contact Real Cable regarding the NANO LP1 for any troubleshooting they can offer.

I hope this helps!
