 Nice setup! Although I question why the Beam as what’s above looks more like a painting rather than a TV 🤔. However, I guess one could place a TV above.

Great point.  The photos above are staged against our media wall where the lighting is better.  The piece is actually designed to go under a wall mounted TV.

It is a beautiful piece of furniture. You mention a Sub Mini, is it in the cabinet as well? If so, what steps have you taken to isolate the turntable from the Sub Mini and the Fives? The Beam 2 sounds best when not enclosed. Have you made any sound comparisons between a free-standing Beam 2 and being enclosed?

The Sub mini is not physically in the console, but located on the opposing wall to encourage an immersive sound.

The Play:5’s are attached to a wooden frame that has thick felt pads on the bottom.  This coupled with the turntable’s vibration absorbing feet seems to adequately prevent vibrations from the Play:5’s interfering with the turntable - even at max volume.

The Beam’s purpose in the design is to have the console be able to serve a TV mode in addition to a record console.  The photo below shows the lift lid lowered when in TV mode so that it is not visually blocking the TV.  The drop lid front is designed to integrate the with the pattern on the bottom doors.  However, there are through slots cut in the front of the lift lid directly in front of the Beam to allow sound to pass.  I realize that there will be some sound blocking with any barrier in front of the speaker and I can notice the drop but it is not significant enough to be considered a problem (for me 😊).

@jfrailey

Ton be honest… imo that looks fantastic. But as an upper class furniture and audio setup I think the position of the P5s is quite too low. Even if sitting on a chair opposite the furniture imo the speakers should be placed at ears hight. That’s and probably the price are the only reasons that for me would speak against that solution.

@jfrailey

The latest link you posted suggests that all three speakers can be used simultaneously across the front. That is true when listening to music.

However, speakers not part of a home theater setup ( i.e. Beam, Surrounds and Sub) will experience a 75ms delay creating an echo effect.

The Play 5’s will not function without causing a delay effect when watching movies; unless they are used as Surrounds that are Bonded to the Beam. Obviously they are in the wrong location to be used as surrounds.

Sonos does not support three speakers across the front for home theater. It will work for music when the Play 5’s and Beam are Grouped together.

The other question is… which speakers do you Bond with the sub? Is it the Beam or the Play 5’s which I assume are a stereo pair? In addition two rooms/zones must be created…one for the Beam and another for the Play 5’s. Also Trueplay tuning can only be used for one room/zone at a time.

IMO your setup works for the Project T1 and Play 5’s (in stereo pair) to create a great sound for Vinyl with or without the Sub Mini (as single room/zone). Adding the Beam creates a conundrum on many levels for the end-user.

The Beam is bonded to the Sub Mini and the optional Surrounds, and you’re absolutely correct that they are the only parts of the Sonos system that are utilized when playing TV audio.  In other words, the Play 5’s will not contribute to the TV theater sound.  I wish they could, but if you bond the Play5’s to the Beam (as Surrounds) then you loose the ability to have Line In audio to the Play 5s which is what we need for the turntable.

Nevertheless, I believe this is still a big win in that we have one media console that:

  1. Is excellent for vinyl and streaming music (the entire Sonos system is employed),
  2. Also serves as a high quality TV theater sound system (employing the Beam, Sub Mini and optional Surrounds)

I really appreciate your feedback.
