RCAs from turntable into Era 300

Forum|alt.badge.img

I really need this community’s help…

My Sony PSLX310BT turntable has L/R RCA output (red & white male output). It has no RCA inputs.

But the Sonos line-in adapter only has a 3.5 input.

How am I supposed to connect? The Sonos representative over the phone recommended a RCA female splitter. But with these, won’t I lose stereo?

Do you know any work around? Would this product help me?

Or do I NEED a turntable with a different output?

Along with the Sonos Line-in Adapter, you just need a basic RCA female to 3.5mm male adapter like this:

You will still have stereo audio when using this adapter.

Thanks - Luckily I have one and will try when I get home. Are you sure it produces stereo?

It will, if it’s a stereo adaptor. If it’s only a mono adaptor you’ll need to change it per @GuitarSuperstar’s suggestion.

You can see if a minijack cable is mono by counting the rings:

One ring is mono, two is stereo. I would be highly surprised though if an RCA to minijack adapter cable would only provide mono.

Thank you! With your image above, the rings are the black markings? (So, ignore the numbered circles)

Male to male, why female?

A cable that has two RCA male at one end and 3.5mm male at the other is what is needed. And I do not think that such a cable where the 3.5 mm is not stereo is the norm. It will have three gold/brass coloured segments if it is stereo, two if there has been a summing to mono.

Unless the Sony has cables coming out of it, terminated with two RCA jacks, in which case the linked cable is the type needed.

PS: I see that it does have a cable coming out of it!

Yes, the cable is indeed coming out of the Sony turntable. I had to return an audio-technical because I couldn’t get it to work right. (I had forgotten about troubleshooting in this community and Sonos tech support was poor). It seems that a number of turntables in this price point do not have RCA output jacks, but instead either a 3.5 to RCA output or just the RCAs coming out of the unit.

The cable would save you money and be all you need if the Sonos end had two female RCA jacks as some Sonos units do. In this case, the short cable per the link in the best reply - or the one you have at home if that looks similar - is what you will need.

I also see that the Sony has some toggles at the back - one needs to be set to Line In, and other for Gain - I think you may need to play with that till you get the sound levels you need from Sonos at the other end.

In the photo above the top connector, with two black rings, is the stereo version.

OUTPUT SELECT should be set to LINE.
