My turntable no longer works with Sonos

My turntable no longer works with Sonos. I’ve tried everything, checking cables, connections, rebooting…nothing. I used a DAK 2800-PC as a preamp which worked with zero issues until I attempted to play a vinyl a few days ago. The DAK is receiving a turntable signal but my 5s aren’t responding. Before I order a new preamp I need to know if the problem can be corrected with what I’m using currently. Thank you.

Hi @TonyHearst

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Sorry to hear of this issue you are having with hearing no audio from your turntable plugged into your Play:5 speakers.

I think the best thing to do to determine where the problem lies might be to find another source you can try, like a CD player or an older phone with a headphone socket (if you have the right cables, of course). If you cannot get audio when using an alternate source either, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.

I hope this helps.

Can you plug the turntable direct to a Five? Albeit at very low volume, I think you should hear something. If so it certainly points the finger at the preamp.

Another thought - but for others to comment before you try it: could a variable-volume source with the volume turned way down be plugged into the preamp?

Hard to tell from your description. Have you tried another input on the Sonos, connecting (without a preamp) a CD player, or tape player, to ensure it is the preamp that has failed? Do other streaming sources work?

The Sonos CONNECT is a fairly ‘old’ device, generally speaking, I’d want to ensure whether it has failed before laying out cash for another component that may or may not have failed, even if preamps are basically inexpensive these days.

Are you using S1 or S2 on your system?

Edit: @nik9669a types faster, but has said the same thing (in fewer words) ;)

Have you tried listening to headphones plugged into the DAK 2800-PC, to see if there is signal there?

That’s great. It may help others if you say how it was solved?
