low turntable volume sonos 5 and One

I’ve added a ProJect turntable and preamp to my Sonos setup (two Play:5s and two Play:1s).  I get good sound quality by the volume is low. Here’s how I’ve set it up: I’ve routed the turntable through a pre-amp that’s connected to a Sonos Connect which connects wirelessly to my various speakers.  I’ve tried several amps, but the volume is always low, like a 3 or 4.  I’ve adjusted the volume levels on the turntable and the speakers to full volume, but still no luck.  Any suggestions?

Adjust the Line-In source level under Settings > (Connect Name) > Line-In > Sources > Source level. Also, double check that the Pre-Amp is operating correctly.  You do say that the audio is good quality, but one of the symptoms of no pre-amp is a low level signal that can fool one into thinking it is a volume problem.

There is a volume control on your turntable? Is that volume control possibly on the preamp?

Why are you trying different amplifiers to connect to Sonos speakers? Did you mean preamps?

Trying a generic answer.

The turntable likely has a MM moving magnet cartridge, confirm that and make sure your preamp is set to the proper MM/MC setting. Make sure you don't have two preamp in the loop, internal turntable and external for example.

Set the preamp volume control to mid range.

Set the Sonos line-in level to midrange.

Set the Connect and any Grouped speakers to midrange.

If it is still too quiet adjust each setting up a bit and try again.

Once happy with the level you can tweak the various levels for the best sound.

Thank you to everyone who responded.  I reconnected everything to make sure the set up was correct (it was). I worked with the settings in Sonos, adjusting the source levels, but the problem persists.  I have all of the volume levels set to high, but I still get a low level of volume.  There are no volume controls on the turntable or the amp and I know the amp is working because if I remove the power cord, all sound stops. Maybe it’s a problem with the bridge?  I’ve tried the volume control on the bridge, but it has no effect on the sound coming out of the speakers.

Bridge? That is a very old Sonos network device. Do you mean Connect?

CONNECT’s Volume control adjusts the output level to its Line-Out jacks, independently from any other SONOS players.

The tech is old.  I’ve decided to purchase a Sonos Port to replace Connect to see if that solves the problem.

I’d be tempted to replace the pre-amp first…both cheaper, and you can make sure it matches the type of cartridge/needle on your turntable.
