I am trying to help my mother figure out how to connect her turntable to her Sonos Arc.  I am not a Sonos person myself and am not too familiar with the platform.

Her Arc is connected to surround speakers and a sub woofer.  She want to be able to listen to her old records nice and loud on the surround system and with lots of bass! But, I’m not sure this is possible based on the other posts I’ve read.

I was thinking of getting the port and connecting the turntable (with an external preamp) to the port. Some posts seem to be saying that the line-in on the  port will not allow her to play records through the full surround and other posts I’ve read said you just need to create a new speaker group in order to get the turntable to play through the arc and the surround system.

Could  another option be to connect a turntable to the Era 100 and then group that speaker with the Arc? Would that get the turntable to play through the full surround sound system?

Thanks for the help!

You can use any Sonos device with line-in to connect the turntable. This will allow her to play the turntable audio through her Arc system.

If she doesn’t need another speaker, the Port is a great option.

Thanks for the feedback. She doesn’t need another speaker but using the Era 100 as an input saves $200. Is the Port more reliable or does it provide some other useful function that would make it better in this instance?

In this instance, the only benefit the Port will have is the smaller footprint. If she doesn’t mind having another speaker, the Era 100 will work just fine. You just need to purchase the Sonos Line-In Adapter and possibly an RCA to 3.5mm adapter.

Don’t grab another brand of 3.5 to USB adapter, most are set to convert the wrong direction. Also no clue how many aren’t supported by the Sonos driver code.
