Connecting turntable to 1 or 2 Era 100 smart speakers

I am a complete newbie to this so answers in simple format would be greatly appreciated! I am about to purchase my first Sonos product(s) - the Era 100 smart speakers. I am told that I can input from my old standalone turntable to play some of my vinyl which would otherwise be u/s. Question 1: what do I need? I see a pre-amp mentioned. Would this just be something simple like a Behringer PP400 off Amazon? Anything else?  Question 2: can I connect two smart speakers for true stereo and if so what more do I need?  Any advice greatfully received.

You need a pre-amp (if your Turntable) does not have one built-in) to bring the audio output up-to line-level.

The Input on the Era-100 speakers requires a Sonos line-in audio adapter. There are two different adapters for you to choose from - see these two links:

Note: you will likely need a separate audio cable to connect the RCA output from the turntable to the Sonos line-in audio adapter.

The audio input is stereo and will play the separate left/right channels on two Era speakers which you need to ‘pair’ via the Sonos App.

Ken, thank you. That is very helpful and clearly explained. Any recommendations for pre amp that work well with Sonos? There seem to be a lot on the market. Cheers

Pre-amps tech is 100 years old.  No need to spend that much, you can get one that is perfectly transparent for under $20.  Just pick one.

It isn't working well with Sonos that matters, it is working with your turntable's cartridge that matters.

First, if you have a built-in preamp don't add a second, it will not work.

Second, your preamp should match (or be switchable) your cartridge, either MC or MM. Moving Coil or Moving Magnet.

That is critical as the levels will be off and sound bad if gotten wrong. Most are moving magnet but if you peer near the back end of the stylus you will see little (likely gray) magnets or tiny coils of wire.

Yeah my own turntable is moving magnet (MM) i just use this cheap preamp - works fine for me:

Some nice ones in the $6000.00 range. :-)

More realistic price, and it will rip your albums to digital.

Good reading there on selecting what you need.
