For reference - I have an original soundbar and sub (Gen2)

I now have a turntable without a pre amp and advised to get a Gen1 connect (the white case one). i have noticed that there appears to be 2 models with the top button being different. One has a play/pause symbol and the other a mute speaker symbol. Is the a spec difference? If so whats the one i need?

As a side issue should i only have the Sonos1 app to save any confusion?

Thanks in Advance

Chris

This thread will help.

If you are connecting to an S2 system you will need the GEN2.
Personally I’d get a Sonos 100 with the line adapter dongle if your connecting to an S2 system. Way more future proof and you get a speaker included😎

And you’ll need that pre-amp for the turntable, whichever way you go. Sonos line ins are expecting a line level input, not a phono level input.

Sorry all - things have moved on since lunchtime.

I have today ordered a turntable that has a pre amp.

As i have older products I want use the S1 eco system.

A family member has today just got a brand new Sonos system and i am getting two 1st Gen play 5 speakers in a months time.

Can i use the RCA cables on my turntable to the connect and play it through the whole system and / or one of the play 5’s as the turntable is in a different room?

I am hoping that when my wife hears the difference in quality between our setup and the all singing and dancing new kit then if i make Santa's good list we will get an upgrade.

Again apologies

Several things here…apologies, just don’t want you confused.

Make sure the turntable is set to ‘LINE’ and not ‘PHONO’. RCA cables would then go to your Sonos CONNECT’s line in, and could be distributed to any Sonos speakers using the same version of the Sonos software.

You could alternately connect the turntable to the line in port on your PLAY:5 gen 1s, but that would likely require a different kind of cable (RCA to 3,5mm stereo), you’re fine with your plan to directly connect the RCA jacks to the line in on the Sonos CONNECT running S1. You’ll then be able to direct that input (the turntable) to a connected S1 speakers/rooms/zones.

If you get the chance to grab new Sonos make sure to get everything you now have entered in the Upgrade program  so you get the 30% discount.

Also keep in mind that if you buy a "set" it only uses one discount, no matter how many devices it contains. My full home theater set, Arc, Sub and Surrounds counted as "one item" and only used one discount.

There is a possibility that your CONNECT may run S1 or S2, but the PLAY:5 gen 1s will only run S1

I happen to have the PLAY:5 gen 2s, which will run one or the other, I use them with S2, since I don’t have any devices anymore that are S1 only.

S2 is the way to go. S1 in not supported by Sonos for any newer products
