A busy network with a mismatch of clients radio power vs AP radio power will cause high TX retries. ie the AP is SHOUTING to the client, but AP doesn’t hear the whisper response from client, so it SHOUTS (retries)  again

Nice analogy. I decreased the power of the (now nearby) AP to low as distance is only 2-3 meter.

Without sub full stereo and as soon as the sub is connected secondary channel cuts out.

I don't fully understand the above? “without sub full”, “secondary channel” ??

Sorry, apparently I was not clear. I meant to say that when the sub is removed, the stereo pair functions as expected, but as soon as the sub is connected, the secondary speaker (left channel in my setup) drops the audio.

That said, I’ve been running the setup for several hours after I wrote the above and at a certain point the secondary speaker played its part and haven’t stopped since (for about 2 hours). I don’t trust it yet, because I changed nothing in the setup, except for moving the AP close.

Mmm, disabled band steering?

If you have moved AP, you need to check the power or the other APs, if the remote APs are SHOUTING, the clients may roam to a remote AP, not the nearest one.

Yep, that’s why I bound the setup to the nearby AP. No need to roam at all.

I’ll enable bandsteering again. No need to disable that (I think).

Regarding the troubles I had, Today the system has been stable, so it is building my trust a little bit.

Pity that it is not 100% what caused the issue, but apparently the better signal strength has worked postivily.

Thanks all for your inputs and suggestions.

Regards, Poul

Its the WiFi client that decides to roam, not the AP. You can configure bandsteering and lock a client to an AP which will try to nudge them to your ‘preferred’ band/AP, but the clients can still decide to roam again if they don’t agree with your ‘preferences’, and then be nudged back again, repeat…..

Too lazy to fight the authentication process to check my AP setup but can't you ban a client from one or more APs?

Yes, that will prevent the client authenticating, but wont prevent the client roaming and attempting to authenticate to the AP(s) its banned from.
