How do you listen to Sonos through headphones?

Forum|alt.badge.img+3

If I plug my headphones into my PC, I can hear music coming through my music library. However, the songs from my music library transferred to Sonos only played through my speakers. I want to know how I can listen to my Sonos tunes through headphones on my Sonos app.

Do I have to purchase special headphones for this purpose? I already have a set of wired Sennheiser earbud headphones that plug directly into the 3.5 mm jack connection on my PC. Will these not work when listening to Sonos tracks?

I have 2 rooms that have Sonos equipment in them. However, it is only one room. I want to use headphones for. In that room, I Have a Sonos Bar, 2 Sonos Play Ones and a Sonos Sub.

When playing a Sonos list with the cross-fade on, each track will mingle into the next track with no pausing between the previous tracks, stopping first.

Is there a way I can listen to Sonos through headphones and listen to a Sonos list with the cross-fade on? If so, how can I make this happen?

I should point out I am disabled, so I have an Android phone that uses infrared signals. I cannot use my hands, but I have a button I can tap with my head. I can then use the phone to perform various functions, such as I have Bluetooth capability on my PC. Although my Android phone and PC are separate entities, will I be able to use both with no interference or problems?

TIA.

@Jamie A’s reply tells you: you need a Sonos product called the Port.

Hi @Heathsideboy,

Sonos and your PC wont play in time as these are two separate audio systems. You don’t need to purchase special headphones, but if you want to listen to Sonos with your headphones, then you’ll need the Sonos Port as the Sonos devices you have don’t have Line-Out capability, as well as an RCA to 3.5mm converter for the headphones.

Once you have the Port setup, you’ll be able to group it with your other speakers and then play Line-Out audio through the headphones while also playing it through your speakers. If you just want to play through the headphones, then you just need to start playback from the Port.

I hope this information helps!

Hi Jamie, thank you for coming back to me and for your advice.

Can you explain a little further? Do I need to obtain or purchase anything else to listen to Sonos through the headphones I have described, and if so, what is required?

Even better, could you please provide me with step-by-step instructions on what I need to do? Are the headphones suitable, and will I not have to return them?

Also, going off-topic, can you please tell me how I can edit my first post in these forums? Thank you.

HB

Okay, as I mentioned, I am disabled and it is much easier to do everything on my PC rather than my Android phone. Can I control it from the PC only or does it have to be by my Android phone?

Thank you

I think you’ll still need a phone to install/set up the Port, but control after that should be fine from the pc.
