"Edit queue" and "Play next" & "Add to End of Queue" for folders in Media Library: STILL NOT WORKING.

Updated today to 80.15.01 Android + the latest update on the SONOS Beam Controller.

I have my Music Library on a DLNA server (Twonky) in my local LAN.

I still encounter queue-related issues:

  • browse to Music Library → Albums: I can, indeed add an entire Album to the currently playing queue
  • browse to Music Library → Folders: I cannot add a folder to the currently playing queue (exactly like in my other post where I reported this)
  • browse to Music Library → Imported Playlists (where I see the .m3u files that I have in my library)
    • go to one playlist, hit play: it works fine
    • go to another playlist, go to context menu, hit Add to End of Queue: I get an error message: “Unable to add to queue

I stopped here, for now that’s all the free QA work that I’m willing to provide to SONOS.

As I previously said, I’ll keep using the SONOS Beam to listen to TuneIn Radio, Spotify Podcasts and personal Music Library. It does it’s job, headache is manageable, especially considering that since it’s a single product, I was sparred of ~99% of the trouble of “some speakers missing from the setup”.

But when I do decide to get something else, it will definitely not be a SONOS product. Never ever again a cent from me for such “products & services”.

Did you find what you were looking for?

Hi @serban

Thanks for your post!

Sorry to hear of these issues with Music Library that you are still having.

Folders in Music Library have changed their behaviour, but we have seen quite a bit of feedback about it already - I think it will be changed at some point, though I don’t think it is currently a high priority to do so, when people are still having issues with missing rooms - though these are improving. A new update comes out today that will bring back some features, but none relating to Music Library, as I understand it.

Thank you for the clear explanation of the playlist behaviour - I was able to replicate it in my own testing and I have reported it. At this exact moment, I’m not sure if this issue was already understood or not, but if not, it will now be investigated.

A disappointing reply that you have seen quite a lot of comments on this but it is low on priorities for a fix, is it that difficult? I regularly stream from my music library. It is a pain That I am no longer able to quickly add five or more albums or folders to a queue and have an evening of music all set up. The tedious way of doing it is to add a single track at a time, why should I have to do it the hard way.

Hi @telfian

I understand, but the reality of the matter is that people can still find and play tracks from the Albums, Artists or Songs sub-containers within the Sonos app, so it is not the case that people are unable to find and play their Music Library content, just that this particular method using the folders that the songs happen to be stored in was written differently. And yes - I presume it will take a not-insignificant change to make things work the way they used to once more in regards to folders.

Is “quite a bit” the same as “quite a lot”? I personally don’t think so, but I guess it’s open to interpretation. Our work restoring full functionality to the app is guided by the numbers of people affected by each issue. I have seen several mentions of this - perhaps 4 or 5, including yours. It has not been hundreds, which would illicit an immediate response.

I am not sure what you mean by having to add tracks to the queue one at a time, as this is definitely not the case - use the Albums view, long press a particular album, and choose Add to Queue, or one of the other options.

I hope this helps.

Actually, as I said in my original post, it now works for albums, but not also for folders.

Whereas in the old version of the app, before the “wonderful” updated in May last year, it was working for both.

Pretty baffling, I agree...

I had not picked up that it worked on albums as I normally use folders. Will have to use them until or if it is working with folders too. Some improvement but still not as convenient. I have my library with a folder for each artist, or compilation title, with a sub folder for each album.  Each artist on a compilation album has a separate single song entry in the list, whether sorted by album artist. This makes the lists longer than they need to be and also means it is not possible to just play a compilation album. I might try to make a play list for a compilation album to see if that works.

It would be much easier if albums could be played from a folder.

Exactly… 🙂

There’s still a bunch of us with this habit. But, apparently, not enough for Sonos to care…😒

Yet, it would be great after almost a year to get „pre-new-app-functionality“ back

adding folders with sub folders included to the queue or to replace queue in the local library would be highly appreciated.

as well as fixing another problem. Even if you have tagged you music correctly there is a problem searching for it if there are more than 100 albums / tracks or whatever from one artist. The list of results is 100

I just spoke with customer service today… they said that they had no reports of this issue, i.e. adding multiple folders/sub-folders to a queue...I think this is a big deal.   NAS support for local media libraries was a big product differentiator when I chose Sonos for the Moves I purchased.   And as previously stated it did work before and does still work via the Windows app...I loved being able to add a bunch of folders to the queue and then using the shuffle option for a great playlist. I don’t like being tethered to my PC...

No reports of the issue? I can’t believe the 3 of us and a handful of others which I found in similar threads in forum are the sole users of local library via NAS.

i hope the issue will receive more attention and will be fixed soon. Especially as it was SONOS intention to get functionality that worked before V80 back by September of last year.

If I read Sonos’ comment above the more mentions this gets, the more Sonos will be willing to invest in solving this. So if you feel this is important to you call it in with Sonos and point to this thread.

It would be nice if there was a ticket number or reference number to allow the Sonos team to track down this thread...

@Corry P could you make our hope for a solution more urgent and important with the software development team?

or put some kind of poll to the feature page or your newsletter to get an overview how many customers really have an issue with folders not working as before V80?

thank you in advance

best regards

Hi @zero2cool

All I can really do is document the topic as a feature request, which has been done.

There are a lot of things regarding the local library that are still outstanding There has also been no significant feature update end of January.  I suspect the recent redundancies have not helped :(

Is there an updated time time?

Thank you Corry P for at least getting the issue registered.  In previous life… I had a dev/ops team that reported to me… so I have been puzzled throughout the duration of these issues how the Sonos QA/QC team “approved” the May 2024 release, though perhaps they were not listened to…

@Corry P thanks a lot. Besides the „feature request“ could you also report a bug, also concerning local library.

i‘m adding an audio book, like lord of the rings or the stand from Stephen king etc. LOTR for example are 70 titles.

if I click the 3 dots and „replace queue“ the playlist has 39.000 songs in the list, so the Sonos app (latest version on iOS latest version) adds the „album“ almost 600 times to the queue. Without the sleep timer, sound would still play 3 years from now;-)

so, bottom line, I guess I want to ask the SONOS developers to fix local library after all.

best regards

Hi @zero2cool

We are aware of this issue and are investigating. It also affects online services.

The last I heard, however, it had a surprisingly low count of associated cases - I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team to report this so that the case count is increased and the priority increased as a result.

I hope this helps.

Great idea, I will be glad to get up with tech support, is there a ticket number we can reference?

Hi @PCM_QAM

No, but they should be aware of it by description alone.

Please note, however, that I no longer see this behaviour when adding a playlist from YouTube Music (a positive change since the last time I checked just a couple of days ago), so even if this issue is not entirely resolved, work has definitely already been done on it, and published.

Confirmed the bug is still around for local music playlists… cannot add folders/albums to a playlist from the app, though it works great as always on a PC….

Sooo I'm trying to add tracks to the end of the queue (or play next). It seems to add the whole album / folder, not just the selected track. Is this related to your bug? Not how it used to work back when the app worked. On the plus side, I can at least search my library.

Hi @FedUpUser

The issue reported on this thread is in relation to adding the entire contents of a folder/directory to the queue.

If you are only trying to add a single track, then you are off-topic for this thread. I recommend that you make a new thread and describe your issue in a little more detail - what you’re trying to play, how you go about doing it, what the expected behaviour is, and what you see happen instead.

I hope this helps.
