NAS media and shared folders don't play

Hi all,

entering the Sonos world with an Arc Ultra, I found only half of my expectations to be fulfilled:

TV works, Sonos Radio and Amazon Music run, and, using the Windows desktop app, I have been able to connect NAS media folder and Windows shared folder into the mobile app. Everything looks good, folders and music files are all visible and seem to be running, except there is no sound coming out of the speaker.

Maybe one of you has an idea before I contact the support team.

Many thanks

Gerd

FLAC but what about the bit depth and sample rates?

I have a nice collection of FLAC files that Sonos won’t play until they are trans-coded to a supported depth/rate.

Thank you Stanley_4 for this swift reply and suggestion on supported file types. But all files are of the supported FLAC type. But I will test it on including an MP3 file in my setup.

Thanks

Thank you Stanley, this solved my issue. You are my hero. The file converter will be busy now for many, many hours….

I cheated, bought a refurbished four quad-core CPU Xenon box to do my trans-coding, super fast. Also louder than the floor sweeper and about as hot as the bath heater.

Kid has it now and feeds it fancy audio projects, it lives under a sheet in his garage.

Sometimes, there is value in special purpose equipment. ;) I remember several times purchasing faster build machines for apps that were taking too long building across a network of desktop machines. Expensive in the purchase, but having the job done every morning for folks was priceless.

Well, my transcoding did not end up being too time consuming. But I did have to get the NAS as an extra equipment for the Arc Ultra when I learned about smbV2 ect… And I do see more benefits in having an NAS beyond media server. All is well.

Good to hear.

I have my main NAS set up as his/hers/ours so we can stuff our data up there and avoid sneaker-net or e-mailing it back and forth as well as having a second copy.

I have a tiny NAS, on a Raspberry Pi just to serve my music, to Sonos and to our computers audio players.

Really takes the stress of waking up to a computer that won’t boot up when you know the important stuff is safely tucked away elsewhere.
