Plex + Sonos app = not being able to play FLAC 44.1/16 files

My setup: Beam 2 + 2 x One SL.

I got Plex to play my local FLAC files.

If I play high-res files (FLAC), it’s working fine.

If I play 44.1/16 bit files, it says that it lost connection to Plex (through the Sonos app). Playing the files through the Plex app or in the browser works just fine.

Any idea what’s wrong?

It maybe best to go onto reproduce the issue, then immediately submit a Sonos system diagnostic report from within the Sonos App, note it’s reference and then contact/chat with Sonos Support via this LINK to discuss the matter in detail and see what the Staff can perhaps then suggest to resolve the matter.

What’s perhaps strange here, is the high-res audio .flac tracks are working for you, as this Sonos support link:

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/services/plex

…mentions that Plex on Sonos only supports up-to CD quality audio (up to 16-bit, 44.1 kHz).

I think the audio is transcoded to 16 bit…but still weird that the 16 bit isn’t working properly

Yes, I agree - is it just one particular track and is it one you’ve ripped yourself?

Do you have any 16/44 tracks from a different source you could try?

If not, maybe something in the diagnostic report will throw some light on the matter.

All the tracks. From multiple sources

Are you running the latest version of Plex server - I think it’s currently Version 1.40.2.8395

I think it’s perhaps best you submit a diagnostic report to Sonos Support and see what their Staff say about the issue. It may also be worthwhile posting the issue in the Plex community aswell and see if anyone else is having the issue on Sonos. I’ve not (yet) seen anyone else report the issue in the community here, but it’s worth discussing with Sonos support.

Didn’t manage to work it out with the support, but they told me I can use the Sonos Media Library.

does anyone know if it supports lossless streaming?

Yes, the S2 Sonos local library streaming service, shared over SMBv2/3 for example, supports up-to 24bit-48kHz .flac audio
