Question

Can I use my beam gen 2 as a speaker for my PC via wifi ?

I recently bought a projector and a sonos beam gen 2 soundbar to connect both to my PC and have a cheap home-cinema setup. Eventhough I can connect my PC to the Beam, I cannot use the beam as a speaker, I can only cast music on it from the Sonos app. Is there a possibility to do what I have in mind?

If your devices support it, you can use Airplay. I assume you have connected your Beam with HDMI to your projector.
I use Airplay myself from my iPhone and Mac.

You can also use Bluetooth, but I don't recommend that as the sound will be degraded.

I don’t think the Beam has Bluetooth. Does your projector do HDMI-ARC? Or your PC? Would optical from either be an option?

BEAM 2 receives its audio via HDMI-ARC or HDMI-eARC. HDMI audio uses a different set of pins. That’s why you are not receiving any audio. You’d need to use an adapter between the computer and BEAM. These adapters are not easy to find and are usually expensive.

EDIT: Likely the most practical solution is to use a TOSLINK output from the computer or use an HDMI to TOSLINK (optical) converter followed by the SONOS TOSLINK to HDMI-ARC converter.
