WiFi won't disable on my speakers. I want to try without SonosNet.

I’ve recently upgraded my WiFi using a Deco mesh system and so I want to try using my system without SonosNet and use it with some speakers wired and some on my WiFi.

I understand the way to do this is to disable WiFi on each of the wired units. Using the app on iPhone I select “Disable WiFi”, get the message that it may take some time and then either a “Something Went Wrong” pop up or it does seem to complete the switch off. But either way it stays with WiFi enabled.

Is this just me or is there a wider issue with disabling WiFi?

And am I wasting my time anyway trying this experiment? My system overall works OK but at times the app is seriously laggy when trying to select music or change volume, I was curious if ditching sonosnet would make things more responsive?

Cheers

System is

2 x Ports wired

3 x Play 1 wired

2 x Play 1 Not wired.

Yes, should switch fairly quickly. If it doesn’t a power cycle should see it done.

You could reserve IP addresses for your Sonos, that helps stability for some users, the router’s DHCP page should help you do that.

Once on WiFi you have signal strength results shown in the settings, take a look and see if there is an issue there as that can cause lag.

If your WiFi decides to switch channels that can also disrupt things for a short time. I ended up locking my channels down rather than fuss with it.

Why not try all on WiFi and see if it works. If it does then skip the complicated options.

Just pull out all the network cables and it should switch over?

Just a little update…

I tried again to disable WiFi on each plugged in unit and this time it worked.

It’s been running flawlessly now with the Plays connected to my 5GHz mesh (ignoring the slow to load app) for a few days. I’ve added a new Era 100 as well which set up with no problems and joined the rest of the system.

If you’re disabling WiFi, you’re also disabling the ability of the unit to generate a SonosNet signal, so the unwired units would be connecting to your WiFi, and not SonosNet (if they have that capability).

Yes that’s exactly what I was aiming to do, disable SonosNet.
