Hi Sonos Community

I’m a newbie and would like some help pls.

Context: For music I have a pair of Era 300s and Sub gen 3.  I have a large open plan “L” shaped living/dining/kitchen.  The Dining is in the middle module of the “L” and  has a high 4.8m ceiling.  But the two arms of the “L” have only 2.4m ceilings.    I am thinking of wall mounting the ERAs on the outer dining room wall(left side of pic) which will project music across the dining area and into the kitchen.  They would be mounted about 2.2m up the wall; immediately above the curtains which is the only available space.

Problem: I am worried that in this location too much sound from the upward firing speakers will go up into high ceiling void and become lost.  To void this, is inverting the ERAs a good idea or not? Can I get an after-market cord that will go this far up the wall as Sonos seem to offer only lesser lengths?  Or, is my suggested location a dud idea - I am also quite open to other suggestions?

I have read quite a bit on this forum but none of the topics seem to deal directly enough with my problem.  Sorry in advance if I’ve missed something.  Thx in advance for your help.

Hi @Pezpa

Welcome to the Sonos Community!

Our guidance on the inverted mounting of Era 300 speakers is to do so when the speaker is 2 feet (61cm) or less from the ceiling.

Other than that, I am not sure what to tell you. It seems you were going to upload a picture - perhaps you could try again? It may clarify things a little. Ultimately, though, I can only really suggest to do whatever sounds best to you.

I hope this helps.

Hi Corry

Sorry, I thought the pics uploaded but apparently not.  Here they are again.

ERAs would be above the curtains on the wall shown in the centre of the pic above.  In the lower pic, that wall is hidden from view by the air conditioning unit, but this perspective shows where the sound would project to i.e. across the dining area and into the kitchen area

Thx.

For music, that would be OK (but depends on your and your significant other’s ears) Not overly fond of the positioning if you were ever to use them as surround speakers for a Sonos soundbar.

But ultimately, as suggested before, it depends on your ears. I’d be tempted to set up a step ladder and test before mounting in the drywall.

Hi @Pezpa

Thanks for the pictures!

I agree with @Airgetlam - it should be fine for music playback, but I would also recommend testing with the speakers in place somehow before making any holes in the walls, if you can.

I hope this helps.

Thx to you both. Good advice.  Will give the ladder a go as a tester, before going to much further.

Always best to get Spousal approval first ;)

Yes, getting approval is my next step.  Uncertainty abounds.  Thx.
