I have created a stereo pair with my Beam and 2 Play 1s. The connection worked well and I did the Trueplay tuning. However I am watching TV with my beam and am now trying to select my stereo group. The option is available and all speakers show online but whenever I select it the option never activates. Any help how to get the option to actually select and hold please.
So, to be clear, you have a stereo pair of Sonos PLAY:1s in one Sonos ‘room’, and a Beam in another Sonos ‘room’? And you’re trying to group them for TV playback, or for music streaming?
Since they’re not set up as surround speakers for the Beam, there will be a slight delay between the two rooms, but only when using the TV input on the Beam. When streaming music to both rooms, they’ll be in perfect sync.
I suspect the issue you’re running in to is the ‘Ungroup on Autoplay’ feature. You haven’t indicated which Sonos OS you’re using, but under S2, which I have access to, you’d click on the gear icon at the top right, then select the room that the Beam is in, and turn off the feature (you may need to scroll down to see it) ‘Ungroup on Autoplay’, which will stop the speakers from ungrouping when you start playback of the TV input on the Beam.
As I recall, there’s this same function in S1, I just don’t remember the steps on how to get to it, but it would be in the settings for the Beam’s ‘room’.
All products are in the same room, using the play 1s as surround sound. Using OS S2.
I have successfully grouped the speakers and they worked on test.
at the moment I have the Beam on auto connect to the TV.
When I go to the group function I have the option of speakers in other rooms and have the option of the ‘tv’ group. I can select the speakers in the other rooms and this links up. What doesn’t seem to work is when I select the ‘tv’ group. It just drops the selection.
Ok, I’ve completely misunderstood your issue. I apologize. I’m unsure. If the PLAY:1s are bonded (set up as ‘surround’ speakers), they’d show up as part of the same room as the Beam, and not a separate room for grouping, ever.
What I think you’re saying is when you’re streaming music to other ‘rooms’ in your system, and select the Beam’s room to be included, the system just ignores the command to include the Beam’s room? That certainly shouldn’t be happening. I’d be wondering about potential wifi interference , or even a duplicate IP address issue, causing network issues. Or possibly a mesh network issue, although that seems less likely, as you wouldn’t normally be able to ‘see’ all rooms.
At the least, if reading the linked FAQ doesn’t help, I’d perform a fairly simple network refresh. Unplug all your Sonos devices from power. Reboot your router. Give it a couple of minutes to come back up before plugging back in your Sonos devices. Give them a couple of minutes to load back up and reconnect before testing.
If this doesn’t resolve the issue, I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. But don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, they get sensitive about GDPR.
There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.
When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
All sorted. Thanks for the help
