Speakers disappearing from the app - Upgrading a Beam SORTED ALL MY ISSUES!!!!

For months I have had problems with speakers disappearing from the app and then reappearing. I would try to play music in say 4 rooms, and it would play in 1 room but not the others, then all of the rooms, and then stop randomly and one of the rooms would disappear. So so so frustrating.

I have a big range of speakers - Ones, One SLs, Era100s, Era 300, Beam, Subs, Amps, Connect - all over the house.

I thought it was my new Unifi network so i spent ages modifying that but still I had the issues.

Then I realised the most common issue was in a room with a Beam. I just upgraded that using upgrade credit to an Arc Ultra. AND MY ISSUES HAVE ENTIRELY GONE AWAY!!!!

I can now use the app like the good old days - all my speakers are there (including another Beam in a different room) and I can add and remove rooms from playing music and it just works. I can change volume - AND IT LETS ME DO SO STRAIGHT AWAY!!

I am so happy and wish I had upgraded that Beam months ago. I have no idea what this has done or why this one Beam had so much impact on my issues, and why it works but it does so I thought I would share.

The Arc Ultra is a massive upgrade by the way!

Glad it worked out for you. However that’s strange that one Sonos speaker would cause other speakers to drop.

That type of issue only occurs when a defective speaker is in a group and it’s the lead speaker to which the others are grouped to.

In situations like yours it’s always best to run a diagnostic and then contact Sonos Tech support to discuss the data. Doing so has a two pronged affect.

  1. It hopefully resolves your issue
  2. It provides Sonos Tech support with data that may not have been realized before which can be used to help in similar situations.

Enjoy your Sonos!

Edit:

Just curious…How are the Connect and Connect:Amp being used in your setup?

Was the Beam connected to Ethernet?

Is your new Arc connected to Ethernet?

It could be related to the 2.4 gHz Sonosnet.

The Beam was on WiFi and the Arc is on WiFi. Nothing is connected to ethernet. All on WiFi. I recently switched to Ubiquiti WiFi so all the access points are connected by Ethernet. I had to make loads of changes to get a few Sonos things working (turning off Spanning Tree Protocol seemed to help).

Re the previous question - I have legacy amps and ceiling speakers in a few rooms on a Schneider Multi Room Audio System so I just fed the Sonos Connect into that so I get the same music everywhere. I'm going to swap it out for the new Sonos Professional multi room amp when they release it (as long as the price isn't mad!). And I have two Sonos Amps because I wanted ceiling mounted recessed speakers in a couple of rooms and it was cheaper to use B&O speakers with the Sonos Amp rather than get Sonos Architectural speakers.
