Sonos Play 1 Bluetooth Adaptor

Hello Sonos Community,

I recently rescued an old Sonos Play:1 from 2015 and have connected my favorite streaming services like Spotify and TuneIn. Since this model doesn’t have built-in Bluetooth, I’m exploring options to add Bluetooth capability.

Specifically, I’m looking for a Bluetooth adapter or dongle that can connect via the Ethernet port, allowing me to use the Play:1 for computer audio and sounds.

Do you have any recommendations for a compatible dongle or Wi-Fi bridge? Have you tried a similar setup? I’d appreciate any advice!

The Ethernet port isn’t the way to do this. Get a Roam, it has BT and can send the audio onto other Sonos devices.

Thanks for the suggestion! I totally get that the Sonos Roam would solve the issue, but I’m really trying to avoid buying another speaker and would love to make use of the Play:1 I already have.

I’m not very tech-savvy, so I’d love a bit more clarity on why the Ethernet port isn’t an option. Is it that it’s not possible from a technical perspective, or is there another reason? I just want to understand better before exploring alternatives.

Ethernet is a network connection. It doesn't accept audio unless it is converted to both Ethernet and a Sonos compatible format.

A Sonos Port will do just that. Other options, like the Roam are lower cost.

The Port has no Bluetooth capability, so will not help the OP.

I have a Sonos Connect connected to the output on my Yamaha receiver. This way I can send anything that goes into my Yamaha to my Sonos Play 1. In your case that would be a Bluetooth receiver going into the Yamaha (or your own brand). I send music from my phone to my Apple AirPort Express (which is better sound quality than Bluetooth); I can also send my turntable, cd player, minidisc, computers all to my Sonos Play 1.

Or just plug in a Bluetooth receiver into the back of the Sonos Connect.
