Question

Sonos One Stops Responding to Volume Adjustments Entirely

I have a single Sonos One that, randomly stops reacting to volume adjustments from either the App or the Touch buttons on the speaker itself.  Re-powering the speaker works for a period of time but it fails again at some point.

I have a boost which I have re-powered as well.  I have 13 devices in my system don’t seem to have issues with the others.

Any ideas?

That’s odd. I could argue some sort of interference in the signal coming in from the controller, but that wouldn’t explain the physical buttons. A re-power suggests something is wrong with the firmware itself. Since you have other speakers in your system, I’d be tempted to do a full factory reset , to see if the reload of the OS ‘fixes’ the issue.

Otherwise, I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of reproducing the issue, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

You might consider moving your system off the obsolete Boost and moving to your Wi-Fi, almost always ends up with a more stable system.

Factory Reset of this unit might help, at least temporarily, but it will also destroy the past diagnostic data log that Support could have used.

Thank you, I did this this morning.  Given the physical button issue, I’m not expecting it to help with the specific issue but a worthwhile change for stability none the less.

I have also removed Google Assistant from the specific speaker in case that was having an effect.

Please remember since September 4th 2026 you need an iPhone to install GA on Sonos, see

You might want to reinstall GA as soon as possible before Google would prevent you from installing it at all.

Thanks.  Never used it anyway.  The Sonos VA works for Playback controls which is all we need.

Since the issue affects only one Sonos One while the other 12 devices are working normally, I’d suspect the speaker itself or its network connection rather than the Boost. Have you tried swapping that speaker’s network connection or temporarily moving it closer to the Boost/router to see if the behavior changes? It might also be worth checking whether the Sonos app shows any network or system errors when the volume stops responding.

You’re not alone.  ;-)

I had the same kind of experience 3 times within the last few days. After some hours on std.by when turning on any of my speakers they are only playing on very low volume and not able to change the volume up or down. Only a power down reset helps for a while. :-(

Google AI told me that this is a widespread problem after the resent Sonos software update. See this link to the reddit forum about the issue:

Volume issue after recent update : r/sonos

I will take contact to Sonos support after the weekend.

Hopefully a solution will soon be published.

Same issue. Arc 1.0 volume will be really quiet and it won't respond to volume changes. if I mute and unmute I lose volume entirely. Only unplugging and plugging back in the arc fixes it, temporarily.

Having the exact same problem since the last update. Have it on my Arc, Beam, Ones, Move and some more.

You’re not the only one. The Sonos Reddit community is complaining aswell.

Hope Sonos will fix this issue

Certainly hope people have documented this, by submitting a diagnostic and calling in, so Sonos has a better chance of tracking this down and fixing it.
