Sonos not reconnecting after power outage

We have two Sonos from Ikea (SYMFONISK). These worked fine, but then the power went out and now it won’t connect.

Last time this happened I reset and updated the firmware of the router and connected the Sonoses with ethernet cable to update the firmware on those too. The router update required that I changed the SSID of the network because it had illegal characters so I did that and had to reconfigure all my devices to the new SSID. This also made the Sonoses work.

However, I don’t want to change the SSID of the whole network at home just so I can make the sonoses work…

Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Factory reset both the Sonos and gone through the configuration setup again. It finds the Sonos and plays the chime and I write the SSID password, but then it says it can’t connect and that I should still find it in the app (which I don’t)
  • Resetting the app from settings
  • Reinstalling the app from App Store
  • Connected on of the Sonos to a ethernet cable. This works, but then the Sonos has to be connected to the cable. If I try to configure the settings in the app to make it wireless, it says it can’t be configured for that. It is not an option for my wife to have it connected to the ethernet at all times. I tried connecting the first Sonos wired and the second Sonos wireless, but then if I disconnect the wired on and try to connect it wirelessly by resetting it, it doesn’t work
  • I created a guest network (a new SSID) and connect the sonoses to that network. This works, but if I use my main SSID they don’t show up in the app. Now if I then try to update the wifi settings in the app to use the main SSID it sometimes «work» and say that it’s completed, sometimes not. If it says that it’s completed it disappears from the app (which makes sense) and says I should connect to the wifi that I changed it to. When I do that the sonoses are STILL NOT IN THE APP.

I’ve tried a million different combinations of the above and literally nothing works. The only thing that I think would work is if I change my SSID again, but that it seriously out of the question. I can’t update all my devices every time the sonoses fail because of something like a power outage. That is completely unacceptable.

Does anyone have any idea how I can fix this? :)

most of the routers will support multiple SSIDs for the same physical WifFi network as you did when you created the guest network - most likely your guest network has ‘network isolation’ enable which prevents the devices on that (virtual) network to communicate with each other so you will need to disable ‘isolation’ - bear in mind that when you have one Sonos device connected with an ethernet cable it will create a dedicated wireless network specifically for your Sonos system

I am using the IKEA Symfonisk in various SONOS systems and they all work perfectly.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the reply. I know some guest networks have network isolation, but it worked connecting it to the guest network. What didn’t work was changing it back to the main network.

And I know it works with a ethernet cable, but it’s not a possibility - I need it to be wireless :)

maybe your router has some limitations - in my locations I use a 5 GHz WiFi for my mobile, tablet and laptop and a 2.4 GHz for the SONOS devices and any other IoT device - they work seamlessly together and I do not have to switch any network to find the SONOS devices

If you own the first Gen Symfonisk products then they need to be factory reset to join a new Wi-Fi network.

You say your router completed a firmware update, if this changed the security protocols that could explain why you are not able to connect wirelessly. Check the wireless security is not set to WPA3 only.
