Evening all,

Some three or four days ago my single Sonos Era 100 simply stopped working. Important info :

I have a flashing green light on the speaker.

My phone cannot see the Speaker at all using Bluetooth.

My Sonos app now says ‘’Your mobiles devices OS doesnt support all features’’ and cannot see the speaker. My Samsung S8 is Android 9 so should perform basic tasks.

When I touch the bluetooth button at the back I no longer have a chime.

I cannot play from my external CD player using the InLine adaptor.

Any advice is much appreciated.

Thanks all,

Andrew

Thanks for the message Stanley,

However, I cannot Set Up. The Sonos app does not give me that option despite reinstalls. I have downloaded the Sonso app to another phone and I get the same difficulty. I should have basic functions working with Android 9.

What really troubles me is that other phones cannot see the Era 100 in bluetooth.

I have tried a factory reset with no success.

I am hoping someone on here has some technical advice for perhaps a harder reset ?

Driving me up the wall.

Thanks

Andrew

@Andrew McCletchie The following states system setup/add product is not supported on Android 9:

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/using-sonos-with-unsupported-operating-systems

Since the speaker is in a reset state it now needs to be set up/added. Unfortunately you will need to do this using a supported OS.

Not sure how you are going to have basic functions working on a device the support link I posted above clearly says won't work.

Android 10 and higher

Once you make the error (and it almost always is) of doing a factory reset your only option is to do the setup over from scratch as you have wiped all your data, settings and lists. There is good reason for Sonos to tell you not to do one without consulting them.

Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Ethernet, line-in, all will not work until you set up the speaker.

A large hammer is the next level up in disasterous reset choices, about the only one worse than the factory reset. DON'T!

You need a supported controller device and supported operating system on it to recover from where you are.

@Stanley_4 apart from the solution, the link I also posted specifically states it will not work on Android 9...

Thanks for replies. Much appreciated.

I now understand.

My Sonos stopped working for no good reason and I did a factory reset out of frustration/good faith/underestimating what Sonos would do to me.

So without Android 10, you cannot set up a Sonos Product ? Good God, what sort of business practice is that ? Will they put this warning on their website ? Will all the Currys salespeople say ‘’have you got Android 10 because if you havent I wouldnt bother with this ?’’

I invested over £200 on a speaker 14 months ago and I now have to invest in a new phone as my Olde Worlde Samsung S8 is not up to the what Sonos considers should be the mininum standard ?

Sonos invites us to : Get in touch with our CEO, Tom Conrad, at ceo@sonos.com

Thanks for advice everyone

Andrew

@Andrew McCletchie I understand you not wanting to buy a new phone just to be able to set up your Sonos speaker. When I Google “Android 9 EOL”, it seems Google stopped supporting Android 9 in August 2023, having sent the last security update for it early 2022 - that’s four years of vulnerabilities not patched. So there might be another reason to update your phone - security.

Is it so strange Sonos should stop supporting an OS that Google itself does not support anymore?

Sucks, but as with the Sonos Trueplay suggestion for Android users, borrow a supported phone.

Adding the latest Sonos app, doing the setup steps and removing the app is a few minutes job. Faster than a grandkid (who has an Apple phone) can eat a couple slices of pizza.

Yes, thanks, to borrow an Android 10+ phone for set up was to be my next step.

I presume that I can then have basic control over my speaker using the Sonos app on my android 9 phone.

You should, just make sure you keep your antique Sonos app as the current play store offered one won't load on the old phone.

I have an ancient android tablet, been out of support for years but still functions as my alarm-clock and to control my bedroom Sonos.

I have the up to date Sonos app and was happily using this until a few days ago. My Sonos Era 100 speaker for no good reason stopped responding and it was then I did the reset etc.

I just hope that the new app gives me the basic functions with Android 9 when I get the speaker set up again.

I was able to download the Sonos S1 app, but it refused to set up the speaker.

ERA 100 is not compatible with S1.

How did you load the up to date 83.01.09 - 03/31/2026 app on your old device?

My out of support devices refuse to let me do that.

Or was it an older release as shown here?

I was running the new Sonos app and still am except it wont do a new Set Up to the Era 100.

I simply found the old Sonos S1 on Google Play, installed it and it worked. Except of course it is too outdated to set up an Era 1, haha.

I have a Samsung S8 on Android 9, but sorry I see no version information that looks like that at https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/release-notes-sonos-app-updates
