Sonos Beam plus 2 ERA speakers

I have bought a Sonos Beam 2, and 2 ERA 100 speakers. I am not aiming for full surround sound per se, but 1 additional speaker in our kitchen (open plan with the living room - we can see TV form kitchen) and another at the back of the living room facing into the room from behind.

Have tweaked the sound delay for the soundbar so it sounds more aligned and less delayed in the kitchen, still some level of reverb when too loud but it is a lot better.

the sound sometimes drops from the ERAs (connected via wifi), I do have a wifi extender in the kitchen so wonder if my phone switching between the wifi network impacts this or if the speakers are only connected to the main wifi (i have not connected them to the extender - but maybe should consider that).

Depends on the type/nature of this ‘extender’. Generally speaking, drops are caused by wifi interference, you may want to peruse that FAQ for potential issues that can be addressed. It might be worth reading the Sonos Network Requirements FAQ as well.

If all else fails, I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

About your phone impacting drop outs: are you using AirPlay (that indeed uses your phone connection too) or are you playing from inside the Sonos app (that lets the system fetch the stream itself).

Maybe a year or so ago my wife and I decided it would be nice to listen to the news while eating dinner away from the TV.  The sync was not an issue because we were far enough away from the TV not to hear the sound.  So we grouped in a pair of moves in the eating area to listen to the news.  The dropouts were so bad we gave up that idea.  Between then and now we acquired a ISP provided WiFi extender which is closer to the eating area.  That eliminated the dropouts.  Because the news is such bad news these days we listen to Jazz instead.

You may have network issues. However, we need to know a few things:

  1. Is your main router provided by your ISP?
  2. Are you using only the ISP modem and your own router?
  3. Are you using an ISP provided combination router/modem along with your own router?
  4. If number 1 above is the extender provided by your ISP
  5. If number 2 above is the extender the same brand as your router?
  6. If number 3 above has the router side of the ISP provided box been placed in “bridge mode”?
  7. Do all WiFi bands (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) have the same SSID (network name)?
