Question

Skip forward function

I gave up on my Sonos speaker years ago because of poor compatibility with many of my audio apps. I connected to my old speaker again to see if the UI had improved at all, and in many ways it was a lot better! However, there's no skip ahead function in Pocket Casts. This is a real deal breaker because I hate ads and always fast forward through them. Are there any good free Android podcast apps that have this functionality in Sonos?

With newer Sonos speakers, you have the option to use Bluetooth, which allows you to use any Android podcast app that supports Bluetooth. Google has still not allowed Sonos to use any proprietary ’casting’ features, like Apple has with AirPlay 2.

That's good to know but doesn't really address the problem. There are a million Bluetooth speakers in the world, and I own some. I want the multi-speaker functionality, so when I get an answer like that, I just don't want to go back into the Sonos environment at all.

Not sure I understand. Once you send the Bluetooth signal to a Sonos device that can accept it, it can then be shared with all other Sonos devices in the same system using the WiFi signal.

Thank you for that information! My old speaker does not have Bluetooth, and my experience with other Bluetooth speakers has been that they do not group well together. A quick Google search suggests that this may work with the newer Bluetooth enabled Sonos speakers. I'll look into it a little more and might give it another try with a more modern product. I appreciate your help, and if it works as you describe, it would really solve my problems.

Thanks,

Rob

You’re most welcome. You’ll find all Sonos speakers sold currently will both accept a Bluetooth connection, but also share it with other Sonos devices on the network, whether or not they can ‘receive’ a Bluetooth signal. The original device takes the connection via Bluetooth, and ‘converts’ it to a line in, which can be shared.

Note that all devices will need to be either S1 or S2, and not both. Sonos devices can only ‘talk’ to devices of the same operating system. Unfortunately, your account information is lacking detail.

My old speaker is a Play 1 and I can connect to it on the S2 app. I just don't like the interface. I would gladly buy a 2-3 Era 100 speakers if they have the capability you describe. I'll probably give one a try.

I play Bluetooth input using my Roam, and group it with my PLAY:1s all the time. You’ll be fine grouping an Era 100 with your PLAY:1.

Buy direct from Sonos and you’ll get a reasonable returns period if things don’t work out.

Really? What about Five?

Folks tend to forget about the older Sonos still being sold.

Much speculation about a modern Five replacement but nothing official, not even reliable leaks.

Apologies to @Michael.B , I misspoke. See the Bluetooth FAQ here
