Have scoured through all the articles here and most seem to NOT have any resolution :-(

The samsung ONLY has Arc input no eArc - will this cause the no audio problem?

Like others:

  • Blu-ray works (although not ATMOS because of ARC vs eARC)
  • Reg CDs work fine
  • CD layer of SACD works fine
  • ATMOS when coming from the TVs apps works
  • Connecting Sony UBP-X800M2 to a seperate receiver works

I dumped all my seperate components to go SONOS and its slowly looking like a mistake :-(

@Sarge_72

Sonos as nearly all other audio systems doesn’t support SACDs DSD format decoding. The only way to get the SACD audio to your Sonos system would be if your SACD player is able to convert the DSD format to pcm audio.

Hey there -  the Sony UBP-X800M2 Blu-ray player can convert SACD (Super Audio CD) to PCM

Did you try this?
If the player is putting out pcm stereo it definitely should work. For multichannel pcm a eARC HDMI connection would be necessary. So that could be the reason on your system. Maybe you can force the player by settings to convert even multichannel SACD to a pcm stereo downmix.

Yea no good

Digital Audio Out = PCM

SACD playback channel = DSD 2ch

 TV Sound set to PCM

no sound when playing SACD

“ The samsung ONLY has Arc input no eArc - will this cause the no audio problem? “

Yes. I had the same issue using my multichannel SACDs. Samsung has limited audio options compared to my new LG. Santa dropped off a new LG OLED with eARC, everything working correctly now.

Maybe try the PCM option shown here? Maybe worth a try

“When adding an external device, the HDMI Input Audio Format is crucial. This setting is unnecessary if no HDMI input devices are connected to your TV. To adjust your TV's input audio, go to Settings, select Sound, then Expert Settings, and finally, HDMI Input Audio Format. The options are:

PCM (Pulse-Code Modulation): Ideal if the external device connected via HDMI has pre-processed the audio. This setting outputs the audio through your TV's speakers but limits it to 2.0 PCM, affecting multi-channel surround sound setups.

Bitstream: Select this if you want your home theater system or soundbar to process the audio for multi-channel surround sound. If a home theater system or soundbar isn't connected, the TV will process the audio, potentially reducing quality.”

Appreciate the feedback on the Samsung part of this - lack of eARC is also affecting ability to play ATMOS mixes from 4K Blu-Ray and from AppleTV since both require eARC to pass the correct signal

Sucks because OTHER than eARC, no reason to get new TV and I actually downgraded my sound since I replace a Denon receiver & Polk front stage in favor of the SONOS setup….

Uptown problems I suppose...

@Sarge_72

PCM stereo should work via HDMI ARC (without e).
I think something on the tv firmware does cause the issue.
Did you try setting tv audio output to passthrough/ bitstream instead of pcm? The tv just has to passthrough the stereo pcm signal that is already coming in.

I downgraded my sound a lot when switching to Sonos too, rarely miss the mess of wires, switches, buttons and such that went with the old AVR systems.

I’m still convinced I went the right direction.

Spouse even uses Sonos for TV, she wouldn’t touch the AVR, even with printed instructions, with pictures..
