Unless I am missing something, the S2 app just fragged my old speakers

All speakers working on S1 app, we buy a new speaker “ only compatible with S2” download the app, sign in, poof, all old speakers don’t work.

I try on my phone which has the S1 app, poof they are gone, I try to add devices says “ I only can add devices with S2 app”  I try to add old speakers with S2 app they are “ only compatible with S1”  tech merry go around.

call customer service for over a hour get the run around

Am I missing something or did the S2 app just disable my old speakers ???

Signing into the S2 app definitely shut down my old speakers.

S1 app only showing 2 speakers that are 5 years old, the older speakers are gone.

S1 app saying I need need update to S2 to add speakers…

Seems like planned obsolescence…

Not very much information here to answer your questions, but why didn’t you just create a separate Sonos S2 system with a different Household ID, rather than attempting to upgrade your old setup? See the Sonos support document:

https://support.sonos.com/en-us/article/set-up-separate-s1-and-s2-sonos-systems

Note anyway, that only S1/S2 compatible products will update to S2 anyway. See link here (below) for S1/S2 device compatibility…

Didn’t know setting up a separate system was an option.

my wife bought a speaker on Amazon downloaded the S2 and signed in.

The challenge now is the S1 app won’t let let add devices.

Would signing out of the S2 app help?

Sorry I can’t answer your question at this stage as there’s just not enough detail in your posts. I’ve no idea what devices you’re referring to, or if you’ve even upgraded some/all of the existing ‘devices’ from S1 to S2. I assume it’s the case that some of your devices were S1 only compatible, perhaps mixed with some that were both S1/S2 compatible? I can only guess these things though at the moment.

If you have already upgraded products that are both S1/S2 compatible, do you intend to leave them on S2?

What I would suggest at this stage, is that if you have S1 only device(s) and S2 only device(s),  you will likely be much better off NOT having them setup with the same System/Household ID, as you will likely experience some ‘conflict’ issues further on down the line. You also need to decide where you want to put your devices that are hybrid (both S1 and S2 compatible).

The second link in my post above outlines Sonos product compatibility, to assist you with the choices that maybe open to you.

If you perhaps want to go onto provide detail about your devices and the steps you’ve taken so far, then I’m happy to try to assist you further. Also need to know what you’re looking to achieve and where you prefer to hold your devices …S1, or new Sonos App (aka S2).

For what it is worth, S1 devices and their controller can not ‘see’ or be grouped with S2 devices.

There are some devices that run only S1, there are some devices that will only run S2, there are a few Sonos devices that will run one or the other, but not both at the same time.
