Hello. I’ve recently switched my broadband from Virgin Media to Plusnet. They sent me a Plusnet Hub 2 router but I can’t get my Sonos Play 1 to connect to it.

Using the app, I’ve gone to “System Settings”, then to “Set up a new System”, selected my Sonos and clicked “Add”, connected my mobile to the temporary network, heard the chime, pressed the green button, then on the “Now let’s add your Play:1 to your Wi-Fi” bit, it’s saying “We couldn’t connect to ...”

I’ve tried connected router to Sonos with an ethernet cable but that doesn’t work either.

Any ideas?

See if this Sonos support link might perhaps assist you…

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately it’s still not working.

It just falters at the wi-fi password stage.

Did you first delete your old WiFi credentials within the App’s network settings before attempting to add the new credentials?

Does the speaker work okay when it’s wired to the local network?

I didn’t delete old WiFi credentials. But there doesn’t seem to be a way to do that now. On the System Settings page there’s only the option to ‘Update network’ and ‘Set up a new system’.

The speaker doesn’t work when connected via ethernet to router.

Try removing the credentials from the network settings, whilst the speaker is wired to the LAN.

If it doesn’t work when wired, then did you factory reset the speaker? Hopefully you didn’t do that.

Also did you (perhaps by mistake) uninstall, or reset the Sonos App?

I did factory reset the speaker as it wasn’t having much success before. But didn’t reset the Sonos App.

If it’s your one and only Sonos speaker, then you will have lost the Sonos Household by factory resetting the device. I’m afraid to say you will have lost everything and will need to reset/reinstall the Sonos App and choose to setup a brand new Sonos system (whilst the speakers status LED is flashing green - post reset).

The speaker is what holds your setup, the App is merely a remote and viewer of what’s on your speaker.

See these system/app requirements too, prior to setting up the speaker and music services…

I did a reset on the speaker again, but this time while connected to the router via ethernet. I can now getting music playing out of my play1, and also another play1 in a different room. Can’t seem to work out how to get it to do this without ethernet, but it’s no big issue.

Thank you very much for your help, @Ken_Griffiths. It was incredibly kind of you and I really appreciate it.

I see you have now mentioned another (unwired) Sonos speaker🤔? - Have you tried removing any (old) WiFi credentials and adding your new routers WiFi credentials to that unwired speaker? The credentials may propagate to all the products in your system allowing you to run all on your WiFi, but if not, then maybe swap them over and then also add the credentials to the other speaker and then see if both will then work on your new routers WiFi network.

I was just trying to simplify the issue and just get one speaker working. Can’t find anything with old WiFi credentials. It’s working well enough so I’ll probably leave it as it is. Thanks again for your help.
