Lot of comments and disappointment with Sonos Sub Gen 2.  All seem to be ignored by Sonos.  I had 2 of these units.  Both have now failed and become useless within 5 years.  Very disappointing considering I still have alternate old school speakers that are 25 years old still going well.  Obviously a fundamental issue with these subs which Sonos had no solution for fix.

Only receive 30% reduction on new product.  Sonos should provide 5 year warrenty to standby their product.

Old school speakers mostly do not have a power supply, so they could not fail for the reason your Subs failed. I must say though that five years is on the short end of the expectation I would have for Sonos devices - mine is just over five years old. What (halfway affordable) electronics company does five years old warranty though?

Both of my old Subs are still working with no problems. I do have all Sonos plugged into quality surge suppressors though.

Sonos' one year warranty is clearly spelled out so it should come as no surprise to anyone. Their offer of a 30% discount is better than I have seen from other manufacturers.

For folks that desire more coverage Sonos and others offer very reasonably priced extended warranties. I buy one of these for Sonos given as gifts (also bundled with a quality surge suppressor) to avoid any unhappiness on the recipient's part if there is any unexpectedly early failure. So far every one has proved to be wasted money.

good for you that you were lucky, because most Sub gen2 die within 5 years due to power failure, and that just plain sucks and is ridiculous for a company who pretends to offer upscale quality.

Guess I was lucky as well, I have 2 gen 2 subs, both that have been in service much longer than 5 years (and both ‘open box’ purchases at Best Buy) that continue working quite well.

Not lucky, read up on Sonos and the various failures folks were seeing.

Decided one big factor was likely incoming power spikes and surges. Adding a quality (not expensive/fancy/lots-o-lights) surge suppressor with a high Joules rating to every Sonos may or may not have helped, all I can say is I never lost one to power supply issues.

Second failure mode seemed to be folks power-cycling their Sonos. I an careful to leave them powered down for a minute before powering them back up to reduce stress in the power supply. I also either leave them on or powered down (external switch) if they aren’t going to be used for a while (weeks to months.) Just can’t see running a Room that is only used on Thanksgiving and Christmas all the other months. Same for the guest room, it can go 10 months between uses as our northern friends flee the snow and cold for a visit.

Only Sonos knows the real power related failure rate and what it would cost per unit to lower it.

“Most”?  What kind of data do you have access to that allows you to make the definitive statement that “most” of the millions of Gen 2 Sonos Subs sold die within 5 years?

Phew. I must have been very lucky then as my gen 2 sub still works perfectly after 8 years…

( I don’t think I got the global “Has your Sub gen 2 died” questionnaire.)

guys you don’t have to pile up on somebody simply reminding you that sub2’s been a flawed product, and Sonos is well aware of it. they try to make up for it with that ridiculous offer of 30% another sub when you call them. look around on this forum.

it’s frankly their worst quality issue ever.

if you don’t know about it, good for you.

That 30% offer is not just for the Sub 2, it is often made for out of warranty Sonos products.

The 30% is not just for a replacement, you should be able to use it on any Sonos, maybe even sets.
