I put a DVD on last week and the sound coming out of the Playbar is fantastic

[as an aside i have a Beam attached to the tv in the other room and the Playbar sounds so much better]

I then tried to add in the two Play 1 [set up in stereo mode in the kitchen] speakers I have to the Playbar so i could continue hearing the soundtrack to the dvd whilst cooking in the kitchen. However the sound on the playbar continued fine but the Play 1’s kept dropping the sound every few seconds

I tested it by changing the sound to my Sonos Roam - unticked the Play 1 and ticked the Sonos Roam

Same effect - sound dropping from the roam but the playbar held the sound no problem

can anyone tell me what is happening here ?

Is there any correlation with use of a microwave oven?

Is PLAYBAR wired or wireless?

That does sound like wireless interference, if not the microwave something else, yours or just nearby.

The playbar is in a complete separate room about 10 metres away

the Sonos roam is upstairs and also about 10 metres away

the play 1’s could be being interfered with

however the microwave wasn’t being used if that means anything

Microwave ovens cause issues only when operating.

We don’t have much information to work with. I think that it would be best if you work with SONOS phone support.

How do you not have much to work with

the microwave was ten metres away and not being used.

It is down to the Sonos system as there is no microwave interference.

Perhaps go onto try increasing the ‘Group Audio Delay’ buffer in the Home Theatre room settings in the Sonos App - and just see what happens when you increase it to either medium, high or max. If that resolves your ‘interruption’ issue, then perhaps look to the various options in the link below to see if you can maybe reduce potential interference over the LAN subnet…

Once you’ve decided that the issue must be [ … ] or cannot be [ … ], you are likely to be blindsided.

It does, however, pay to play the percentages and the percentage here is a WiFi issue. I mentioned checking a correlation to a microwave oven because there have been reports of microwave ovens causing issues. In a former kitchen I did have such issues. Currently, a ROAM sits on my microwave and there are no issues. I mentioned it because it’s an easy, no tech check.

I think that you should work with SONOS support. They have the tech tools necessary to prove or disprove WiFi issues are causing trouble. Construction in a former home was so dense that the layout you are describing could not work for basic WiFi, plus there were obvious issues when my neighbor was using her cordless phone. In my current location a WiFi scan can net 100+ access points. I’m not having any bad symptoms, but I’m alert to and prepared to diagnose and deal with any that may develop.

I think @buzz means a Sonos Roam ;)

Oh, and for what it’s worth, I was one of those folks who did have an issue with an older microwave, in a house I lived in in CA. It was old, and was spraying interference in my kitchen. Replaced it with a newer device, the issue went away. But as explained in the wifi interference FAQ, microwaves are not the only potential source, just an easy one to check, as @buzz suggests, but there are others, both inside your home, and outside that are a possibility.

Thanks, I edited the “Rome”. Spell checkers are helpless for me 😬.

With all due respect you’re not understanding what was meant by @buzz. This a Community of Users like yourself who volunteer their time to try and assist. No one in this Community works for Sonos (except the Moderators) and no one here is a member of the Sonos Tech Support team who have other tools to analyze your issue.
