System:

Living Room: Playbase (wired to router) with 2 x One in surround

Bedroom: Sonos One

Bedroom: Sonos One

Mancave: Sonos Connect

Kitchen: ERA300

I recently replaced the Kitchen speaker to the ERA300 from a Sonos One and in order to get the ERA working, I had to connect via wifi to 5ghz.

Problem is, that I use a Universal Remote with a hub (Harmony) which needs the Sonos to be on 2.4ghz in order to control volume in the Living Room, so currently I have no control of Sonos volume via this remote. Before installing the ERA300, all worked just fine.

Any idea how I can set this up please? There might be a setting to allow traffic between the two wifi networks maybe? I use Ubiquiti and there’s only 1 AP in the house.

Why did you need to put the Era’s on 5Ghz? They can do both 2,4 and 5Ghz can’t they?

@gordonpm,

Maybe see if this Unify manufacturers website article relating to Sonos products perhaps might assist you too…

I actually turned off 5ghz and couldn’t get it to connect to the rest of the system. Only when I re-enabled 5ghz did it appear….

It sounds like you have a ‘block’ enabled between your two WiFi bands, or perhaps devices are on a different vLAN - maybe speak with Unifi support and see if they can assist you to resolve the issue.
Failing that you can always contact Sonos Support via this link below, although it sounds more like a local network setup issue from what you have described…

Hi

Thanks for your help. I;ve actually now disabled 5ghz to troubleshoot this. I then deleted the network from Sonos, removed the physical network cable from the Playbase.

When re-adding the network to Sonos, the only 3 devices listed to connect were, one of the Sonos One, the ERA300 and the Move that I also have - this seems very strange - why do the others not list for connection? Already using SonosNet?

Sometimes things get odd, powering down all Sonos, rebooting router and controllers and powering the Sonos back up can clear out any old data and give you a fresh starting point.

Unless you have no choice you should consider running fully wifi, no Ethernet to any Sonos, thus avoiding any Sonosnet related issues.

When you wire a device, like the PlayBase to the LAN, it creates a hidden 2.4Ghz SonosNet wireless network for some (not all) Sonos products to use, rather than them use your local 2.4Ghz/5Ghz WiFi signal.. but the following modern Sonos products do not use a SonosNet signal and only use the Home WiFi (or of course they may use a wired connection instead)….

Sonos Products that do not use SonosNet:

  • Roam/Roam 2
  • Move/Move 2
  • Era 100
  • Era 300
  • Arc Ultra

All the devices listed above, will use your local router/mesh WiFi signal instead when they are not cabled.

Hope that assists and helps explain the issue(s) you were perhaps seeing with your devices.
