Need Help with Adding Speakers to a System

We recently moved not a new home and had several Sonos products up and running on our new Wifi network.

Today we added an Eero, and all the systems couldn't be found. I was able to add the Arc + sub + surrounds, but not if I try factory reseting any other speaker, it says the speaker wasn't added to the system and recommends unplugging and plugging back in. This does nothing. So we can't add anything currently.

Is my best option to create a new system and factory reset everything? Thanks.

Sounds like you have created a double NAT issue when you added the Eero.

There should only be one device on your network handling router duties, so the Eero should have been configured as an access point to simply extend your existing network:

Factory reset is always a bad idea aside from a few situations that Sonos recommends it for.

The first two here might help.

Make sure you only have one network and Wi-Fi to con ect your Sonos to.

I’d suggest the items in the new router - installation instructions FAQ.

The last thing you want to do is a factory reset. In fact, the easiest thing is to set up the new router with the same SSID and password as the old router. You wouldn’t need to touch any devices that connect, then, including the Sonos.

Let’s clarify a few things…

You first said you had a new Wi-Fi network then you said you added a Eero. So’ what equipment were you using with the new network? Exacty how did you add the Eero?

It was the two competing WiFi networks! We made the Eero a bridge, and now it’s all working perfectly. Thanks!!!

@WheelHoss

Do what you want, however…

From your last post it sounds like you had equipment provided by your ISP. Typically when investing in 3rd party WiFi gear the user places the ISP router in Bridge Mode (if using a combo router/modem ISP box) or removes the ISP router completely if the ISP gear are separates.

Either way the 3rd party gear you invested in should become the Primary WiFi source which allows the user more control for configuration. Also, it negates disruptions to your Wi-Fi caused by changes pushed out by the ISP to its gear that can sometimes disrupt the 3rd party gear being used as access points.

All said at this juncture as everything seems to be working for you there’s no need to make adjustments other than for the reasons I stated. If that’s your choice. Otherwise Enjoy your Sonos!

EDIT:

The exception to the above would be if you only purchased one or two Eero boxes and intended for them to be used as extenders to the ISP gear. However not knowing exactly what your network looks like regarding equipment it’s difficult to say.

We considered making the Xfinity modem/router combo the bridge. We didn’t for two reasons. First, the Xfinity app has a lot of functionality we would lose. Second, it would have required logging into an Admin server, whereas putting the Eero into bridge was a toggle on the app. Fortunately my brother in law is an expert, and if we want to go the other route, he will be available to help. Thanks!

Interesting…😂😂

I had Xfinity and went the opposite direction when I installed my ASUS AiMesh. I found much more flexibility with my ASUS gear. Today I no longer use Xfinity as I have switched to Google Fiber with better incoming (3Gb). My network is entirely my own as Google Fiber only provides input via their fiber box/jack. I guess I’m the version of your brother-in-law 😂😂

I have the Xfinity XB8 & one Pod.  No connection problems at all.  Don’t wish to complicate my network with other network devices.  All IP Addresses are reserved.
