Question

My Sonos One makes a popping sound when no music is playing!

I have 2 Sonos One speakers (not Era 100) configured as surrounds for my Sonos Arc. They are mounted high on the wall, one above the full-height window and one (across the room) at the corner of the hallway and kitchen.

As speakers, they are excellent. But when no music is playing, the one next to the window/wall sometimes makes a "pop" sound. It doesn't happen often, but maybe once or twice an hour. The other one never does this.

My hypothesis is that the window shade next to the one that pops, has a big battery in it and that might build up some kind of inductive change, which the Sonos One discharged and it makes a popping sound.

Is this possible? The observation is true my explanation may not be.

The challenge with electrical fields and WiFi make it possible…albeit I’d hope unlikely. Can you remove the battery from this shade for a while to do a test? Conversely, within 10 minutes of one of these ‘pops’,  you could submit a system diagnostic, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here.

There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.

When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.

,

@Bruce Thanks for your reply. The remote-controlled shade is one of those with the battery inside the roller. It can't be easily removed. I can follow the instructions to submit the diagnostic. When I first noticed this, I did call Sonos Support and they were at a loss. But it's an odd situation and they didn't suggest the diagnostic. I will try this.

@Airgetlam understood this, but I just want to correct my typos

"...battery in it and that might build up some kind of inductive change, which the Sonos One discharged"

should have read:

"...battery in it and that might build up some kind of inductive charge, which the Sonos One discharges"

Yea, I read it that way…my typing is terrible, and iOS autocorrect doesn’t really help me as often as you’d think ;)

For what it’s worth,  my IKEA automatic roller shade makes it possible (but not easy) to remove the battery for recharging, just takes effort. Doesn’t mean yours works the same way, but at least in my case, it is possible. Of course, I don’t have that ‘pop’ issue, either.

Unfortunately, sometime electrical energy / radio works in odd ways. If my college physics classes in broadcasting were correct….

You could swap the two speakers and see which one pops, if the diagnostics route fails to produce an answer?
