About 8 months ago i purchased a house. The previous owner had installed wall mounted sonos speakers in the downstairs and upstairs bathrooms. When we veiwed the house he pointed them out to us, and played music from them, the sound quality was great, and they look nice too.
Anyway, once we were settled in i set about trying to use them. I installed the sonos app, set up an account, it recognises the speakers, but i can't play any music from them. I have powered them off and on etc, spent hours waiting in the online chat support only to get nowhere. I keep getting this message to sign in as the system owner. I sign in but it just loops this message.
Does anyone have any advice on how i can get them working, or, is it because i am not the original owner they cannot be used? It would be a shame to have to throw them out.
PS. i have no contact with the previous house owner. Any support from him is not an option.

I should have noted, i think they are Sonos One SL
Maybe also worth noting is we are using the previous owners wifi router. We signed a new internet agreement with the local internet provider but the actual router was the previous owners. I dont know if that has any bearing or not?
To have these speakers registered under your account, you'll need to reset them first:
Thanks, i was able to unplug the speaker in the upstairs bathroom. There is no Join button on these speakers, so when reconnecting the power i held down the Play/pause button (its actually not a button, just an imprint), the light flashed white on and off for a minute, then stayed permanently white. The sonos app is still asking me to sign in as the system owner, repeatedly. The TuneIn and Sonos Radio services dont't work, and i cannot add any new services = sign in as system owner.
The speaker in the downstairs bathroom is more difficult. It is in the top corner, the cable runs inside the wall, we have no idea where the plug socket for this speaker is. I have tried disconnecting the power cable from the speaker itself, but it does not budge, not even when using pliers. So this speaker is permanently on. I could try dismantling it from the wall holder, but that does not look like an easy task, and the power cable is still going to be stuck inside it.
Very frustrating this. I just want to get these speakers working.
Any ideas?
You may need an assistant to help, but you could switch power at the fuse box.
Unless you see the orange/white flash, you have not factory reset the unit.
For your security, I recommend changing the WiFi password. You’ll save effort if you do this before setting up the SONOS system.
Thanks
First though, I don't understand why the upstair barthroom speaker is not resetting? We unplug the power cord, i hold my finger on the mark with play/pause, plug back in the power cord, it flashes white on and off for a minute, then stays white. I have tried it several times now. There are no other buttons.
Any idea why it is not resetting?
Thanks

Don't remove your finger from the mark/button until it starts flashing orange and white.
Hi @ALI_101
Welcome to the Sonos Community!
Sorry to hear of the issue you’ve been having in trying to get your speakers working.
In order to reset Sonos One SL speakers, there is a physical push button at the back of the product that needs to be held down as the power is applied - it is with older products that the Play/Pause buttons could be used, back when Play/Pause buttons were also physical push buttons.
However, if you are able to see the speakers in the Sonos app, then a quicker method to get them all registered to your own account would be to go to Settings icon » Manage » Transfer System Ownership. Please only perform this step when all speakers can be seen in the app.
I hope this helps.

I can see both speakers in the app, i just did the Transfer System Ownership process, it said the speakers were successfully transfered to my account, but i am still getting the looping message "sign in as the system owner" and i still cannot play anything from these speakers.
Using the button on the back to reset them is not going to be an easy task. They are wall mounted with metal brackets, tight into the top corner of each room, if there is a reset button on the back, then these brackets have it covered up and i cannot access it. Dissasembling the bracket is going to be a real pain, no room for a screwdriver to get in at the back.
Below are some photos showing how they are mounted.
I have tried posting photos here, it says wait until they are uploaded, but they are not appearing. Any ideas?
I just uninstalled the Sonos app, rebooted my phone, then reinstalled the Sonos app. When logging in it said i am now connected to the system on the TP Link router. "Sign in as system owner" problem persists.
This TP Link router belonged to the previous owner of the house & speakers. Could this be the root of the issue?
Can anyone offer me advice here?
Factory Reset. You may need to temporarily wire these units to your network.
You’ll want to setup a new system as you get the first unit online. The remaining units will be added to an existing system (the first unit).
Transfer system will probably not work because you will need the original user name and password. Also, if the previous owner is using other units, you would not want to transfer these units to you.
Sorry, I'll need to make multiple posts, as I tried in a single one and got an error.
Your speaker has a mic, so it's a Sonos One, not the Sonos One SL:
This is the back of the Sonos One, showing the Join button (#1), which you'll need to press to reset the speaker:
Note the Join button is just above the Ethernet port (or below, as your speaker is mounted upside down)
The Join button should be behind this hole and you can try pressing it with a small stick:
If you can't press the Join button, then the other option is to remove the speaker from the mount. You'll need to slide the mount open, releasing the socket and/or screw below. You can do that with either a ratchet or a wrench:

I have tried everything to get this screw to turn, with no luck. The screw head that you circled is mine, i put it there, the trouble is, from this screw head to the wall/ceiling is about 6cm, there is no room for a proper screwdriver to get in. I have tons of wrench's, ratchets, etc, but nothing i have tried can get a grip on this and make it turn. The downstairs bathroom speaker will be even worse to get off the mount, its tucked in real tight to the top corner!
Absolute nightmare, this is driving me insane.
i dont think the join button is behind the top hole
It is:

Have you tried WD-40?

You are correct! I have now reset the speaker in the upstairs bathroom. It is still sjowing in the Sonos app, it just says 'not connected' ??? . Now i have to figure out how to cut the power to the downstairs bathroom speaker so i can reset it. We don't know where it is plugged into, i cannot remove the connector from the speaker end - not even with pliers, so it leaves one option, to trip the power to the whole house, and my wife is telling me to forget about that idea!
However though, something tells me even once i reset the downstairs bathroom speaker, the Sonos app is still going to ask me to sign in as the system owner!!!
I might end up going to an audio store and paying for a call out. Sounds pathetic, but this is really doing my head in.

Reset the speakers and the app. To reset the app, you can uninstall and install it again or clear the app data/storage.
Then, when you start the app, it'll show the “Get started with setup” screen. Choose “Speaker or component” instead of “Join existing system” and follow the prompts.
You only need to trip the circuit breaker for the speaker. If this was my house I’d want to know which breakers serve each outlet. Now might be the time to log this info if it is not yet known.
