I got a new era 100 to add to my system. Cannot seem to group together my current Play 1 and new era 100. I can group my five Gen 2 with the era 100, but it does not want to group with the Play 1.
My Play 1 and five group fine.

That does seem odd. I’d certainly want to check for updates, but the fact that you can group with one device, and not the other seems interesting. I’m assuming when you say Five Gen 2 you mean a PLAY:5 Gen 2, to my knowledge, there has not yet been a Gen 2 of the Sonos Five.
But I would recommend that you submit a system diagnostic within 10 minutes of experiencing this problem, and call Sonos Support to discuss it. Don’t post the resulting diagnostic number here, they get sensitive about GDPR.
There may be information included in the diagnostic that will help Sonos pinpoint the issue and help you find a solution.
When you speak directly to the Support staff, they have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your network and Sonos system.
Just to clarify: will it not group at all, or will it not play the music to both speakers when grouped? There is a priority when grouping, so if speaker A is playing music and speaker B is grouped to A, they’ll both play. If B is not playing anything but A is playing music, nothing will play if A is grouped to B, if that makes sense?
Before spending time calling support a complete Sonos and network power down and back up can often solve odd problems.
Also it is far less aggravating to do it first, rather than as the first support suggestion.

Yes, PLAY 5 Gen 2.
I did a power and network cycle to the whole system and now the Play 5 won’t group with the Era 100 at all anymore whereas before it did .
The only thing I can think of that’s different between the 4 speakers is the Play 5 and Play 1 create a mesh network with my hardwired second Play 1. While the Era 100 is connected directly to my wireless network and doesn’t utilize the mesh network. If I can get the Era 100 to join the mesh network, maybe it will work? But think it’s incompatible.
I will try to hardwire the Era 100 utilizing the USB C port the network. Maybe it doesn’t like the mesh/wireless connectivity?

Thank you, I tried that and no luck.

They will not group at all. Yes, that makes sense. Thank you.
Maybe switch all Sonos to Wi-Fi mode and remove all Ethernet connections? Going to be a lot less hassle than wiring the 100s, cheaper too as the required adaptor isn't cheap.
Sonosnet is still supported but only on older devices so weaning yourself off it isn't a bad idea.
Hi
Welcome to the Sonos Community!
Sorry to hear about this issue you are having with certain speakers not grouping together.
Such issues are usually caused by a firmware version mismatch between the two speakers. I recommend you check your system for available updates: Settings Icon » General Settings » System Update » Check for Updates.
If this does not fix your issue, I recommend you get in touch with our technical support team who have tools at their disposal that will allow them to give you advice specific to your Sonos system and what it reports.
I hope this helps.
