I had a very strange Sonos problem today, but it now seems to be fixed. Today I received an Era 100, which I was adding to a system consisting of four older Sonos speakers in different room. I installed the Era 100 and it was able to play from streaming sources but could not play material from my music library, which is contained on a USB memory stick plugged into my router.

Interestingly, I could get the Era 100 to play material from the music library by grouping it with any of the other speakers in the system if I initiated the playback from the other speaker. I called Sonos about the problem and spent a long time on the phone with a technician. He ultimately escalated the issue to Level 2 Support. The Level 2 technician revealed that the problem has been around since November 2024 and affects not only the Era 100 but also the Era 300 and some other recent speakers. The original technician stated that there was a potential solution that he could implement by remotely logging into my computer and redefining my music library using the router's IP address rather than a network path defined by the router. I told him that I would try doing myself and ended the call.

My router is a Netgear AX4300. I keep my music library in a directory called "music" on the USB stick.

The router assigned the music library the name \\Readyshare\USB_Storage\Music. That was the path that I had previously been using in the Sonos software.

I changed it to \\192.168.1.1\USB_Storage\Music. That solved the problem. The Era 100 could now play the material from the music library without having to be grouped with another speaker.
