Crossfade not working

Forum|alt.badge.img+5

Updated Sonos yesterday and now crossfade is broken.

Has anyone else experienced this and do you know of any workarounds?

Version 16.4.2

Hi @gmbardman

A small, but important, update: it does not seem to matter if Crossfade is on or not - I can reproduce this issue with it off, but only with certain tracks, as you said.

It seems to be the same issue that is being discussed here:

It has been reported and we will investigate - thanks for reporting!

Hi @gmbardman & @Master T

Thanks for your posts!

Sorry to hear about the issue you are both having with Crossfade not working. I’d like to investigate this for you.

In my own testing with YouTube Music, I was unable to reproduce this issue.

Could you both please follow these steps?:

  1. Reboot the speaker you are about to use by removing power for a moment, then wait for the white light to stop flashing.
  2. Recreate the issue you are having (if you can - reboot might have helped).
  3. Then submit a support diagnostic immediately afterwards.
  4. Post here, letting me know the room you tested in.
  5. And post which music service you tested with.

Please don’t post the diagnostic numbers you are given - I’ll find them without.

Thank you.

Thank you Corry P.

It is with my Music Library.  Amazon Music works fine.

I unselected CrossFade on both my Mac and IPHONE and selected again.  It helped.  Some songs are OK (very few) but it seems to stop a song abruptly and then start playing the next.

I will perform the steps outlined and submit diagnostics.

Hi @gmbardman

Thanks - I’ve started playing some Music Library now to see if I can replicate.

If you are able to spot any kind of pattern with which tracks will crossfade and which won’t, that would be very helpful - I’m thinking track length, file type, bitrate, bit-depth - anything that might vary, basically.

One more thing - please let me know what device your Music Library is stored on, including the brand name if it is a NAS (Network Attached Storage) device. Thanks.

There's a similar crossfade issue reported years ago when playing Atmos songs. It was never fixed.

I reported Atmos crossfade issues a long time ago but nothing was ever sorted.

Crossfade works fine on my Ones, even after the various updates. Just not in Atmos or Lossless on my Arc/Sub/Symfonisk home theatre...

It is reproducible while playing from my Music Library as well.  If you still need the diagnostics, let me know and I can provide them tomorrow.

Good morning Corry P!

Here is the diagnostic information.  I turned off all speakers (10), ungrouped Kitchen by Refrigerator and reboot the “Kitchen by Refrigerator as you suggested.

Your confirmation number is: **********.

It did not abruptly stop but crossfade is not working correctly at all from what I can tell.

Same Here. Cross fade worked for several months after last time it was broken. And now again it does not work. Disappointing!

I’m new to Sonos. Just received my speakers today and downloaded the app. When I stream Spotify with other devices it uses my Spotify crossfade option. In Sonos, songs end and next one begins. It’s not smooth. I don’t see a crossfade option in Sonos app.

Tap the dots in the bottom right of the now playing screen, and toggle Crossfade on.

Update: looks like it’s only a problem with spotify. Apple Music works fine.

That suggests the function is available in the Sonos API, but Spotify hasn’t implemented it. You may want to reach out to Spotify.
