Hi

I have 4 x sonos 1 speakers, two wired up as individual and two as a paired stereo and it all works well.

I have been offered a pair of play5 and a single play 3 along with a bridge at a reasonable price.

My intention is to put these together in the living room a part of my group.

Firstly, will this work?

Secondly I have noticed the new speakers have an input connection.

Does this mean I will able to plug my TV into the new components and put the tv through them for tv sound. As well as being part of my original system?

So to conclude, i will have;

1: two x sonos 1 as individual units (current).

2: two sonos 1 as a paired stereo (current).

3: two sonos play 5 & one sonos play 3

as a stereo plus centre speaker.

Will option 3 work with (A) the current system

Will option 3 take input from my TV, DVD player

I have until Tuesday to make my decision

So Many thanks in advance

Phil

If the Play 5s are Gen 1s, you will NEED to use the S1 app to control all your speakers.

A line out from your TV to the line in on the Play 5 will work, but you will have lip sync issues because of the way Sonos handles audio. There is a 75ms delay between the line input and audio output of any Sonos speaker/device. The exception to this are soundbars and the new Amp with HDMI.

Play 5s in stereo will not pair with a Play 3 for a dedicated center channel. It can be grouped with the Play 5s, but it will not be a center speaker, just a grouped speaker. Soundbars (except the Ray) have left, right and center speakers for TV watching. The Amp creates a phantom center that works well.

Whilst you can have multiple speakers in a group, you need a soundbar if you want a 5.x home theatre system. Only the soundbar can decode the signal and send relevant data to the surround.
