I’ve got a brand new Sonos Ray, and I am using it as a computer speaker with my Mac Mini, which has an added soundcard with optical output. Setup was no problem, but I have discovered that if I start streaming Airplay to the Ray, the speaker just will not go back to “TV audio” after streaming is done, which breaks my intended setup and use.

I have to go into the Sonos app, disable “TV autoplay” and then immediately enable it again for the Ray to go back to the optical input.

Is this really intended behaviour, or am I missing something?

This is normal behavior if your computer is still on when you stop Airplaying - I believe the Ray will check only when your computer starts up if it is needed to supply sound. It will not revert to the the Mac when you stop doing Airplay.

I see, thank you. I guess I thought the speaker would just revert back to optical input when streaming to it ends.

That’s disappointing, I’ll have to return my Ray.

Program an infrared TV remote to work with the Ray - when you stop the (Airplaying) music - press the volume up button (multiple times) to return to TV/computer audio, or tap the TV icon in ‘Your Sources’ in the Sonos App (see screenshot) or if you add the Ray to Amazon Alexa using the Sonos Skill you can ask Alexa to switch the Ray to TV Mode.

Thanks, but that sounds like more of a workaround or hack than I want to live with. I think I’ll just go with another solution than Sonos for this specific use.
